About this tool

arch-mcp is an unofficial community project and is not affiliated with Arch Linux officially. It is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server designed to connect AI assistants with the Arch Linux ecosystem, providing intelligent, secure, and efficient access for AI-assisted Arch Linux usage on both Arch and non-Arch systems, covering the Arch Wiki, AUR, and official repositories.

In terms of purpose, the project enables AI assistants to obtain easy-to-understand, structured results and supports follow-up questions and actions. It can be used to search the Arch Wiki and AUR, retrieve package information, check for updates, install packages, and analyze PKGBUILDs.

Its main capabilities include: direct access to Arch ecosystem data through a custom URI scheme (resources); executable functions (tools); and guided workflows (prompts). Together, these capabilities support AI-assisted Arch Linux usage scenarios.

In terms of usage, the project requires uv (recommended) or pip. It can be installed quickly via uvx. It is suitable for Claude, Cursor, or any MCP client that supports STDIO transport.

Applicable scenarios include performing Arch Linux-related queries, package management, and PKGBUILD analysis with the help of AI assistants on Arch or non-Arch systems.

In terms of limitations, the materials do not provide specific system requirements, a complete list of supported AI clients, a detailed list of tools and prompts, installation command examples, or usage steps. The project welcomes contributions, and pull requests or issues can be submitted. The license is dual-licensed: GPL-3.0-only or MIT License, and users may choose either one to use; contributors must agree that their contributions are licensed under both licenses.
