Purpose
zerodrop-mcp is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that provides AI agents with a disposable email inbox and automatically extracts verification codes (OTP) and magic links from emails. When an agent needs to register for a service and that service sends a verification email, the agent gets stuck if it has no inbox it can read. zerodrop-mcp is designed precisely to solve this step.
Main Capabilities
- Create a disposable email address: generated instantly and locally, with no network request required, returning the inbox address and a real-time listening URL.
- Wait for and extract emails: blocks until a matching email arrives, then returns the email content, in which the OTP and magic link have already been extracted, so the agent does not need to parse HTML itself or use regex to match the body text.
- Non-blocking snapshot: retrieves a snapshot of recent emails in the inbox (including extracted fields), or returns an empty list.
Emails are captured at the Cloudflare edge by ZeroDrop's open-source worker, and the OTP and magic link are extracted at the edge before the agent reads them. On the free tier, inboxes are automatically deleted after 30 minutes.
How to Use
No Docker, no SMTP, no API key, no registration required; the free tier works out of the box.
Add to claude_desktop_config.json:
Add to .cursor/mcp.json (project-level) or ~/.cursor/mcp.json (global):
(For the specific configuration content, please refer to the repository README; this material does not provide the complete configuration code.)
Environment variables are set in the MCP client configuration. The server only makes requests to ZERODROP_BASE_URL (defaulting to zerodrop.dev) and does not access any other addresses; inbox generation is done entirely locally. There are two runtime dependencies: the official MCP SDK and zod.
If you are generating test code rather than driving a live flow, you can use the SDK directly: npm, PyPI, Go, RubyGems, Packagist, JitPack, GitHub Action.
Applicable Scenarios
- End-to-end testing of authentication flows: registration → OTP → verification, all driven by the agent.
- QA automation: Claude Code writes and runs Playwright tests that require a real inbox.
- Autonomous workflows: any agent task that encounters an email verification obstacle.
- Development debugging: let the agent register for its own application and report back whether the verification email works properly.
Limitations
- On the free tier, inboxes are automatically deleted after 30 minutes.
- The server only makes requests to ZERODROP_BASE_URL.
