About this tool

Purpose

Mastra Factory is an open-source, agent-driven software delivery environment designed to automate multiple stages of the software development process. It is aimed at teams that need to manage AI coding agents collaboratively, integrating steps such as issue intake, planning, implementation, and pull request review into a configurable software development lifecycle.

Key Capabilities

  • Persistent coding agents: Agents can run for long periods and have persistent context and shared state, supporting a full /goal mode through sub-agents.
  • Repository workspace: Connect an existing GitHub repository, and agents can inspect the codebase, plan changes, implement changes, run checks, and open pull requests.
  • Issue intake and planning: Receive issues and pull requests from all connected sources, including GitHub and optional Linear projects.
  • Explicit stages and human approval: Set clear gates at the Intake, Triage, Planning, Building, Review, and Completion stages. Team members can answer agent questions during the triage stage, approve or edit plans during the planning stage, and review and merge pull requests during the review stage.
  • Visual Agent Builder: Provides a graphical way to build agents.
  • Deployable and observable: The Mastra platform automatically deploys Factory, and it can also be self-hosted; supports billing and quotas for observability events, CPU hours, and data retention periods.
  • Team collaboration: Teams connect GitHub organizations and repositories, optional Linear projects, and model providers, then collaborate through a shared cloud dashboard rather than individual terminals. Each work item retains its own session.

How to Use

  1. Connect a GitHub organization, repositories, optionally a Linear project, and configure a model provider.
  2. Agents receive work from GitHub or Linear issues.
  3. Answer agent questions during the triage stage; review and edit plans during the planning stage.
  4. Agents implement between gates, run checks, and open pull requests.
  5. Decide during the review stage whether to merge the final pull request.

The project initially uses the Mastra platform for authentication, database, and sandbox, but the Mastra server, Factory UI, and Studio all run locally, directlyto use mastra deploy deployment. Factory can also be self-hosted.

Applicable Scenarios

  • Build features, fix defects, refactor code, and write tests.
  • Move work from issues to reviewed pull requests.
  • Because Factory is open source and based on Mastra, its agents, tools, workflows, and UI can be adapted for other multi-step processes, such as content production, research, or data analysis.

Pricing and Quotas (based on official information)

  • You can start building with a free account.
  • Free tier: 100K observability events, then $10/100K; 24 CPU hours, then $0.35/hour; 15-day data retention; unlimited users, deployments, and projects.
  • Another tier: 1M observability events, then $8/100K; 250 CPU hours, then $0.25/hour; 6-month data retention; multiple teams, SSO, and SOC 2 documentation.
  • Enterprise tier: custom volumes and retention periods, including RBAC, audit logs, support and uptime SLA, and a dedicated support engineer.

Limitations

  • By default it is aimed at software development, but it can be adapted for other multi-step processes.
  • Key stages require human involvement: the triage, planning, and review stages require human decisions.
  • Open source, but the project initially depends on the Mastra platform for authentication, database, and sandbox.
  • Specific deployment details, the scope of model provider support, system requirements, and similar details are not yet provided.
