About this tool

AI Commander provides AI agents with secure remote access to the user's own computer. Its core feature is an "outbound-only" connection method: AI agents can perform operations on controlled machines without exposing an SSH service, opening inbound ports, or setting up a VPN.

Main capabilities AI agents can check a machine's online availability, run shell commands, manage detached long-running background tasks, capture desktop screenshots with the user's explicit authorization, and transfer temporary files between local and remote machines. These capabilities are made available for AI tools to call through a hosted MCP (Model Context Protocol) endpoint.

Repository contents and license This public repository contains two parts: first, the open-source AI Commander plugin for Cursor; second, signed application installers published through GitHub Releases along with their SHA256SUMS checksums. The repository does not contain the proprietary source code of the AI Commander desktop application, machine agent, or hosted relay service. The Cursor plugin, MCP configuration, Glama/stdio evaluation files (Dockerfile, package.json, glama.json), and documentation in the repository are licensed under the MIT License; the AI Commander trademark, release binaries, desktop and agent applications, and hosted services are not covered by this license and remain subject to their respective product terms.

How to use The plugin connects Cursor to the hosted Streamable HTTP MCP endpoint. When access to an account is required, Cursor starts the OAuth flow; after signing in, the plugin can operate machines associated with that AI Commander account.

Installation steps:

  1. Clone this repository to ~/.cursor/plugins/local/aicommander
  2. In Cursor, run Developer: Reload Window
  3. Open Settings → Plugins → Installed and confirm that AI Commander appears
  4. Ask Cursor a question, for example: "List my AI Commander machines and show which are online."
  5. When Cursor opens the AI Commander login page, complete the OAuth flow

The plugin consists of the .cursor-plugin/plugin.json manifest file, the MCP configuration in mcp.json, and the marketplace icon at assets/logo.png. The plugin version is independent of the release version numbers of the desktop application, agent, and hosted service.

Downloads and installers The latest installer is available through the official website https://aicommander.dev/ or GitHub Releases. Machine-readable release metadata is located at https://aicommander.dev/dist/latest,不可变的版本化构件位于 https://aicommander.dev/dist/v/<version>/.

Download verification Each release includes a SHA256SUMS manifest covering all artifacts. macOS: The DMG, PKG, and ZIP artifacts are signed and notarized with an Apple Developer ID. Checksums can be verified using shasum -a 256 -c SHA256SUMS. Windows: The NSIS installer is Authenticode-signed. Its checksum can be verified using certutil -hashfile AICommander-Setup.exe SHA256. Linux agent: A separate Ed25519 signature and .sha256 file are included alongside the binary. The official installation process verifies them before running anything with elevated privileges.

Use cases Suitable for users who want AI agents to execute commands, manage background tasks, transfer files, or take screenshots on demand on their own or controlled computers, especially in scenarios where they want to avoid exposing SSH ports or configuring a VPN. The Cursor plugin connects AI agents with associated machines.

Usage limitations and precautions Tool calls that execute commands, stop tasks, or write files may change or delete data on the target machine, so the target machine and requested operation should be carefully checked before approval in Cursor. For the specific limits of the service's free and paid plans and purchase terms, please see the official privacy and terms pages.
