GeniA is an AI platform engineering team member for engineering teams, positioned as "your engineering Gen AI team member." It can work alongside engineers in production environments, perform tasks on behalf of users, and understand how a team specifically operates. GeniA is built on the function-calling capabilities provided by OpenAI (or Azure) and requires an OpenAI API Key. The project is fully open source and uses the Apache License 2.0.
Purpose
GeniA is designed to help software engineers handle many tasks in their daily work beyond coding, reducing boilerplate work, wasted time, and cross-team dependencies. It is designed as production-grade software, and the GeniA container can be installed and integrated into a team's Slack channel to get started quickly.
Main capabilities
GeniA can assist with the following types of tasks:
- Deployment, troubleshooting, log summarization, build initiation, PR digestion
- Use Argo to deploy k8s-based services to staging/production
- Investigate the cause of the most recent Argo deployment failure
- Report unused resources and optimize cloud spending, for example generating a report of unused cloud resources by team and sharing it to Slack, or creating an AWS ECR usage report to identify potential cost-saving opportunities
- Vulnerability checks, best practices, runbooks, for example performing a security vulnerability analysis on S3 buckets, or granting temporary production permissions
- Reduce MTTR, service usage monitoring, service optimization, for example providing virtual SRE expert support during production incident troubleshooting, or increasing the memory of Node services on a k8s cluster
- Service scaling, managing EC2 instances and cron jobs, coding utilities, for example upgrading EKS or ELK cluster versions on staging and production
How to use
GeniA requires an OpenAI API Key and can run a Streamlit web application. After installing the GeniA container, it can be integrated into a team's Slack channel. GeniA is designed as a fast learner and can quickly gain the ability to use custom tools, and official instructions are provided for teaching GeniA to use additional tools. More details can be found in the official documentation.
Applicable scenarios
Suitable for teams such as platform engineering, SRE, and DevOps, for deployment, troubleshooting, cloud resource optimization, security checks, and daily operations tasks in production environments.
Limitations
GeniA requires an OpenAI API Key and depends on the function-calling capabilities of OpenAI or Azure. Facts such as specific charges, pricing, platform support scope, and effectiveness are not yet provided in the materials.
