Purpose
OpenBot is a free desktop app for running AI agents as a team on your own computer. You can bring your existing ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, or Grok plan, or your own models, and connect them to these persistent AI teammates.
Key Capabilities
- Multi-agent collaboration: Each agent has its own name, instructions, and workspace. Agents can send messages to each other, hand off tasks, and share files.
- Support for multiple AI providers: Can run Codex, Claude Code, Gemini, Grok, OpenCode, Cursor, or Cline, and can also connect to any OpenAI-compatible endpoint, as well as local models in Ollama or LM Studio.
- Use existing AI plans: Codex can sign in with a ChatGPT plan, Claude Code uses a Claude plan, Gemini uses a Google AI Pro or Ultra plan, and OpenCode provides free models with no account required.
- Local data storage: Workspaces, conversations, files, and browser data are all stored on the computer running OpenBot, not on official servers.
- Agent persistence: When you restart the app or switch providers, agents retain their workspace and conversations.
- Built-in browser: Agents can open, read, and control pages in OpenBot's built-in browser.
- Task queue: When an agent is busy, you can continue sending messages, and queued messages can be paused, resumed, or canceled.
How to Use
- Download OpenBot and connect an AI provider.
- Describe the agent you want with a prompt, review its instructions, and save it.
- Send it a task immediately; if the agent is busy, the message will be queued until it is free.
Supported platforms: macOS 13 or later (Apple silicon or Intel), Windows 10 or later (x64), and Linux (x64 or arm64) AppImage. There are also TestFlight/Google Play beta versions for iPhone and Android that can connect to a computer.
Use Cases
Suitable for those who want to organize multiple AI agents on a local computer to collaboratively handle development, testing, code review,Individual developers or small teams doing tasks such as publishing, especially suitable for users who already have multiple AI service subscriptions, want unified scheduling, and want to keep data local.
Limitations
- Currently a development preview. Agents can read and write files, run commands, use the network, and control the built-in browser, and do not need to ask each time. You should only grant trusted tasks and keep backups.
- Workspaces, conversations, attachments, and browser data remain on the computer running OpenBot; the selected AI provider will receive the prompts sent by the agent, and pages opened by the agent will use the network.
- The source code is publicly available on GitHub under the PolyForm Noncommercial License 1.0.0. It can be read, modified, and used for any non-commercial purpose, but this is not an OSI-defined open source license. Commercial use requires a separate license.
- Regarding cost: OpenBot itself is free, with no hidden fees and no locked features; you only pay the fees of the AI provider you use, either through an existing plan or an API key.
