invisible_playwright

invisible_playwright is a Firefox-based anti-detection browser automation library designed to let Playwright scripts bypass anti-bot detection and CAPTCHAs. It uses Firefox patched at the C++ source level to set browser fingerprints (such as navigator, screen, GPU/WebGL, Canvas, fonts, audio, WebRTC, timezone, network, etc.) inside the engine rather than through JavaScript injection, so there are no override traces that can be detected. At the same time, the driver layer humanizes actions such as clicks, hovers, and drags, simulating real mouse paths and timing. The library is compatible with the existing Playwright synchronous and asynchronous APIs, allowing switching without modifying code, supports Python 3.11+, and can run on Windows x86_64 and Linux x86_64/arm64. Each session generates a random fingerprint, supports reproducibility via a seed, and can pin specific fingerprint fields. It supports socks5, socks4, http, and https proxies, with DNS routed through the proxy by default, and the timezone can follow the exit IP. The installation command is invisible-playwright, and it can also be run via python -m invisible_playwright. The project uses the MIT license, and the patched Firefox binary follows MPL-2.0.

About this tool

invisible_playwright is an open-source anti-detection browser automation tool built on the Playwright API, but underneath it uses a Firefox browser patched at the C++ source level to evade detection by anti-bot systems. Its core goal is to let automation scripts avoid being identified as bots when visiting websites, thereby reducing the triggering of CAPTCHAs (such as reCAPTCHA, hCaptcha, Cloudflare Turnstile).

Purpose

This tool is mainly used in Python web scraping and browser automation scenarios, especially those that need to bypass anti-bot detection. It is suitable for automation workflows that need to simulate real user behavior and avoid being blocked by websites or required to complete CAPTCHAs.

Main capabilities

  1. Anti-detection fingerprinting: Browser fingerprints are set inside the engine rather than through JavaScript injection. It covers about 200 fields including navigator, screen, GPU/WebGL, Canvas, fonts, audio, WebRTC, timezone, network, and more. Each session generates a random fingerprint, which can also be reproduced via a seed.
  2. Human-like actions: The driver layer simulates natural mouse paths and human timing for actions such as clicks, hovers, and drags, and input events come from real input paths, ensuring isTrusted is true.
  3. Playwright API compatibility: Supports synchronous and asynchronous APIs, allowing switching without modifying existing code. The browser object is a standard playwright.sync_api.Browser or playwright.async_api.Browser.
  4. Proxy support: Supports socks5, socks4, http, and https proxies, with DNS routed through the proxy by default to avoid local leaks. The timezone can automatically follow the exit IP.
  5. Fingerprint pinning: Specific fingerprint fields, such as GPU, can be pinned via a seed, while the remaining fields are still derived from the seed.
  6. Cross-platform consistency: Canvas and WebGL remain consistent for the same seed across different operating systems.

Usage

  • Installation: Requires Python 3.11 or higher. The installation command is invisible-playwright(with hyphens), and python -m invisible_playwrightcan also be used.
  • Switching: If you already have Playwright code, only two line changes are needed to switch to invisible_playwright.
  • Configuration: Supports proxy and timezone settings, can reproduce runs via a seed, and can also pin specific fingerprint fields.
  • Command line: Provides a CLI tool.
  • Integration: Can be used as an MCP server (via uvx aihawk), and it can also work with the AIHawk interface, requiring an OpenRouter key.

Use cases

  • Web scraping: data collection tasks that need to bypass anti-bot detection.
  • Automated testing: testing scenarios that need to simulate real user behavior.
  • AI agents: as a browser automation engine for AI agents.
  • Privacy protection: automated operations that need to hide the real browser fingerprint.

Limitations

  • Some Playwright features are not within the supported scope, such as tracing, HAR, CDP, API request context, etc. These features will be explicitly rejected with an explanation of the reason.
  • Only Windows x86_64 and Linux x86_64/arm64 platforms are supported.
  • Python 3.11 or later is required.
  • The project states that it is for educational purposes only, is provided as is, without any warranty, and users must bear the risk themselves and comply with local laws.
  • The patched Firefox binary follows the MPL-2.0 license, and the C++ patches are located at feder-cr/firefox_antidetect_patch.
