Meet Live Assist is a standalone Chrome extension project that lets your own AI agent participate in real time during a Google Meet or Zoom call. Once installed, the extension captures call captions, displays them instantly in a side panel, and feeds the captions in batches to an assistant running on your computer. The assistant responds while the call is still in progress: what to say, what was decided, who is responsible for what, what you just agreed to that you should not have, and it uses the current language of the meeting.
Main capabilities include: real-time transcription (capturing captions, instant streaming to the panel, deduplication, monologue forced refresh, conservative ASR vocabulary); color-coded suggestions from the "brain" (🟢SAY/🔵INFO/🟡SUMMARY/🟣EXPLAIN/🔴RISK/🟠ACTION), supporting rich content such as links, images, charts, and lists, each copyable, with RISK triggering sound and notification alerts; brain liveness indicator, capture watchdog (warns when captions are interrupted); decision and action item board, supporting one-click drafting; retrospective quick queries; two-way chat; autopilot (automatically creating tickets or notes, posting links to the meeting chat, off by default); automatic snapshots during screen sharing and on-demand snapshots; TTS into the call; local STT (whisper); meeting mode and type awareness; live demo editing and shared tab debugging; speaking time, muted microphone, and personal mention reminders; post-meeting summary export.
How to use: first start the bridge server and keep it running with the command node server/transcript-server.js --pair; then enable Developer mode in Chrome at chrome://extensions, load the unpacked extension, pin it and click the icon, and the panel will automatically obtain the token from the pairing window; finally open Claude Code and let it assist your meeting. ./install.sh accepts the MLA_USER, MLA_LANGUAGE, MLA_DOMAIN, and MLA_TRANSCRIPTS_DIR environment variables. MCP clients need to maintain a persistent background loop, because MCP is client-pulled and the server cannot proactively start a turn. The server can also run as a standalone npm package meet-live-assist-server with the command npx meet-live-assist-server; the Chrome extension is not listed in the Chrome Web Store.
Data and privacy: everything is stored by default in the ./transcripts folder (changeable via MLA_TRANSCRIPTS_DIR), with file permissions 0600 and directory permissions 0700, and automatically cleared after 14 days (RETENTION_DAYS, 0 means keep permanently). The 🗑 button in the panel can immediately erase all data for a single meeting. For complete removal, delete that folder, delete ~/.claude/skills/meet-live-assist, run claude mcp remove meet-live-assist, and remove the Chrome extension. The server runs on 127.0.0.1:8848, and all routes except /health require the X-MLA-Token header.
Use cases: suitable for work meetings, reviews, sprint planning, and similar scenarios, letting an AI assistant provide real-time suggestions and record decisions and action items. Limitations and requirements: requires Node 20+, Chrome 116+, and Claude Code (or another MCP-capable client); voice into the call is macOS-only (using say and afplay); local speech-to-text requires ffmpeg and whisper.cpp; the suggestions panel is empty when no agent is connected; the project uses the PolyForm Internal Use 1.0.0 license, allowing free internal use and modification, but no redistribution, public forks, or selling.
