About this tool

Vedaksha is a clean-room Rust astronomical ephemeris and Vedic astrology engine, aimed at the era of agentic AI, claiming sub-arcsecond planetary accuracy, with every algorithm traceable to primary sources, and charts exportable as property graphs.

Uses: computing janam kundali (birth charts), panchanga, dashas, nakshatras, vargas, shadbala, ashtakavarga, muhurta, and transits/gochara.

Main capabilities: provides two ephemeris providers—SpkReader reads JPL DE440s (about 31 MB) for sub-arcsecond work; AnalyticalProvider compiles VSOP87A and ELP/MPP02 into constants, requires no data files, and is suitable for WASM, edge computing, and Cloudflare Workers. The Vedic portion includes 27 nakshatras with padas and ruling planets, 5 dasha systems, all 16 divisional charts (D-1 to D-60), six-component shadbala (two components incomplete), 11 ayanamshas, the five limbs of panchanga, and more. The Western astrology portion performs calculations only and no interpretation, including 10 house systems, major aspects, essential dignities, synastry, and composite charts.

Usage: provides Rust, Python, WebAssembly, and an MCP server. MCP provides 17 tools, discoverable via tools/list; charts can be converted to property graphs via emit_graph or vedaksha_graph::chart_to_graph, outputting Cypher, SurrealQL, JSON-LD, JSON, or RAG embedding text. HTTP mode requires each POST to carry Authorization: Bearer <token>, and VEDAKSHA_MCP_TOKEN must be set unless using --insecure-no-auth.

Limitations: houses have not been validated against external references; ayanamsha has not been compared with other implementations; dasha and nakshatra tests are invariant tests; shadbala's Sthana Bala lacks Saptavargaja Bala, and Kala Bala covers only Nathonnatha and Paksha; the technical report has not been peer-reviewed. The license is BUSL-1.1, free for non-commercial use, one-time USD 500 per organization for commercial use, converting to Apache 2.0 four years after each version's release.
