OTTASIA MCP Server (@ottasia/mcp-server) is a Model Context Protocol server that lets Claude and other MCP-compatible clients directly query the availability of streaming platforms in Asia and the Middle East. Its core purpose is to answer the question "where can I watch a certain movie or series (X in country/region Y)," covering 30 Asian and Middle Eastern streaming markets.
Main capabilities include three types of tools:
- where_to_watch: Find which streaming services offer a certain movie or series in a specific country. The parameters are title (string, required, movie or series name) and country (two-letter ISO country code, optional, default IN).
- whats_new_on: List the latest titles added by a certain streaming service in a certain country. The parameters are provider (slug, required, such as netflix, prime-video, disney-plus-hotstar, wavve, shahid, viu) and limit (number, optional, default 15, maximum 30).
- search: Perform a multi-result search for movies and series, returning multiple candidates to disambiguate before checking availability. The parameters are q (string, required, search term) and limit (number, optional, default 8, maximum 20).
Supported 30 countries/regions: IN India, PK Pakistan, BD Bangladesh, ID Indonesia, MY Malaysia, PH Philippines, SG Singapore, TH Thailand, MM Myanmar, KH Cambodia, LA Laos, BN Brunei, CN China, HK Hong Kong, JP Japan, KR South Korea, TW Taiwan, KZ Kazakhstan, UZ Uzbekistan, TR Turkey, IL Israel, LB Lebanon, JO Jordan, SA Saudi Arabia, AE United Arab Emirates, KW Kuwait, QA Qatar, BH Bahrain, OM Oman, EG Egypt.
Common providers (for the provider parameter of whats_new_on): netflix, prime-video, disney-plus-hotstar, jiohotstar, hulu-japan, wavve, tving, viu, vidio, iqiyi, shahid, osn-plus, starzplay, hoichoi, chorki, zee5, sun-nxt, aha, eros-now, manorama-max, shemaroo-me, crunchyroll, apple-tv-plus, hbo-max. If a slug is incorrect, the API will suggest approximate matches.
How to use: When installing in Claude Desktop, add the configuration to the Claude Desktop configuration file: on Mac the path is ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json, and on Windows the path is %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json, then restart Claude Desktop, and the OTTASIA tools should appear in the tool list. No API key, no environment variables, and no additional configuration are required. When integrating from non-Claude Desktop clients (Claude API, browser-based MCP testing grounds, custom code), you can connect directly to the hosted HTTP endpoint using the MCP Streamable HTTP transport (stateless, JSON responses), with the same tools and data. During local development, you can set OTTASIA_BASE_URL=http://localhost:3000 to point to the local OTTASIA development server.
Example prompts include: "Where can I watch Squid Game in Indonesia?" "Is Pathaan available on any platform in Saudi Arabia?" "Use ottasia's where_to_watch tool to find Game of Thrones in Japan." "What's new on Netflix India this month?" "Are there any newly added K-dramas on Wavve in South Korea?" "List recently added content on Shahid in Saudi Arabia." "Search 'the office' on OTTASIA" "Find all matches for 'joker' and tell me which one is the 2019 Joaquin Phoenix film."
Technical implementation: This MCP server is a lightweight client that calls ottasia.com's public JSON endpoints: /api/mcp/where-to-watch?title=...&country=..., /api/mcp/whats-new?provider=...&country=...&limit=..., /api/mcp/search?q=...&country=...&limit=.... All TMDB data, caching, and per-country provider logic remain in the OTTASIA backend, so the installed npm package contains no API keys.
Privacy and limitations: This server is a read-only lookup tool that only sends queries issued by the AI assistant (title names, streaming services, two-letter country codes) to OTTASIA's public API at ottasia.com, and returns streaming availability data with a link back to ottasia.com. It does not collect, store, or transmit personal data, credentials, files, or conversation content, and requires no account or API key. The full privacy policy is at https://ottasia.com/privacy。
