Purpose: This is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server designed to enable AI assistants such as Claude to control Apple Shortcuts automation, allowing AI models to trigger shortcuts and automate tasks on macOS while remaining safe and controllable. MCP is a system that lets AI applications (such as Claude Desktop) connect to external tools and data sources, providing AI assistants with a clear and secure way to collaborate with local services and APIs while keeping users in control.
Main capabilities: List available shortcuts; run shortcuts by name, with optional input parameters; provide a simple interface for automation control.
Usage: Prerequisites include Node.js (v18 or higher), Claude Desktop installed, and macOS with the Shortcuts app configured. The server can be used through Claude Desktop configuration (a configuration snippet is provided in the official repository). You can also clone this repository, install dependencies, and run it locally after building; the official setup provides a Claude Desktop configuration for the local build. After configuration, you can say to Claude "list shortcuts", or run a specific shortcut by its shortcut name, for example "get word of the day" or "play a song".
Use cases: Automating tasks on macOS by using an AI assistant to trigger configured Apple shortcuts through natural language.
Limitations: Depends on Node.js v18 or higher, Claude Desktop, and the macOS Shortcuts app; other facts are not provided at this time.
