What is Devin Desktop
Devin Desktop (formerly Windsurf) is a new-generation AI development platform after Cognition comprehensively upgraded the Windsurf IDE, positioned as an "Agent command center." While retaining full IDE capabilities, it unifies management of all local and cloud Agents through a Kanban board and introduces Spaces to enable cross-Agent context sharing. The platform supports the ACP open protocol and is compatible with Codex, Claude Agent, and other third-party Agents, delivering a full-stack unified experience from desktop to cloud, and from CLI to code review.
Main features of Devin Desktop
- One-click deployment (Deploys): Windsurf now supports one-click deployment of applications to the public internet. Users only need to click the mouse to package and publish a locally developed application to the public internet. The URL after deployment can remain unchanged, making subsequent updates convenient.
- Enhanced features for enterprise users: MCP and Turbo mode. Enterprise users can use features such as MCP (Model Context Protocol) and Turbo mode, and administrators can control the switches for these features in the backend. Management content includes allowed models, MCP, Turbo mode, and more.
- Automatically generate commit messages: Windsurf can generate commit messages with one click, automatically generating a description based on the current code changes. Users can edit and modify it in Windsurf's SCM sidebar, and submit to git after they are satisfied.
- Chat history directory navigation: A chat directory has been added in the upper left corner, making it convenient for users to quickly jump or roll back to previous conversations in long dialogues. This solves the previous problem of inconveniently searching through conversation content after a long dialogue went off track.
- Improved long conversation performance: The official team optimized long conversation performance, using techniques such as checkpoints and summaries, so that long conversations can maintain answer quality as much as possible.
- Tab feature improvements:: The Tab feature continues to evolve, adding context from user searches, supporting the use of Tab in Jupyter Notebook, and making Tab jumps faster and farther.
- Multi-model AI integration: Windsurf integrates multiple AI models, such as for code generation, error detection, and refactoring suggestions. These models work closely together to provide developers with comprehensive programming support.
- Flows mode: Flows is a core innovation of Windsurf. It introduces a brand-new collaborative agent, Flow, which can capture and respond to developers' actions in real time and provide precise code suggestions.
- Automatic code completion: Provides intelligent code completion suggestions based on context, including variable names, function names, class names, and more.
- Error detection and repair: Detects potential errors in code in real time and provides repair suggestions.
- Supercomplete: An advanced prediction system that analyzes and suggests next actions beyond simple code completion, improving developer productivity.
-
Agent command center: Uniformly manage the tasks and status of all local and cloud Agents through a Kanban board view.
-
Spaces: Share context between Agents, and manage sessions, PRs, files, and project context in groups.
-
ACP protocol compatibility: Supports Agent Client Protocol, and can connect to Codex, Claude Agent, OpenCode, and team-built Agents.
-
Devin Local: A local Agent rewritten in Rust, saving 30% more tokens than Cascade and supporting sub-Agent capabilities.
-
Full-stack unified coverage: Desktop, Cloud, CLI, and Review are unified across all four ends, with the same Agent and the same context.

Devin Desktop's application scenarios
- Large-scale codebase management: In large projects, developers can understand and navigate complex codebases and perform efficient code editing and maintenance.
- Code development and refactoring: Developers generate new code, refactor existing code, and optimize code structure.
- Issue detection and debugging: With Cascade's issue detection and debugging capabilities, developers can quickly locate and fix issues in code, improving development efficiency.
- Multi-file editing and collaboration: In projects that require editing multiple files or modules simultaneously, it helps developers maintain contextual continuity and improves collaboration efficiency.
- Rapid prototyping: For developers who need to rapidly iterate on prototypes, it accelerates the development process and reduces coding time.
