Purpose
CoworkingView MCP is a hosted MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that also provides a REST API, used to connect a real-time directory of coworking spaces and private offices to AI assistants. It is aimed at users who want AI assistants to directly query real office space listings, prices, and location information, covering markets such as Europe and the UAE. It is officially stated to be free, read-only, require no registration, and require no API key.
Main capabilities
- Search for coworking spaces by city, area, price range, desk type, or amenities, and also search by the specific area currently being viewed on the map.
- View detailed information for a single space, including price options, amenities, photos, location, and the date the price was last verified.
- List the currently covered countries, cities, and areas, down to the neighborhood level.
- View the available filter options to understand which amenities, desk types, and price ranges actually exist.
- Resolve a user-entered area, city, or operator brand name into the correct search space.
- Compare 2 to 5 spaces side by side, listing prices, capacity, amenities, and ratings in the same question.
- Provide market conditions for a city: median, minimum, and maximum prices for desks, private offices, day passes, or meeting rooms, along with sample size and date.
- Provide rankings within a city, combining price, market conditions, amenities, and reviews, to answer questions like "the best coworking in a certain city"; rankings are only done within the same city and do not compare across cities.
- Provide operator profiles: who operates the brand, in which cities it operates, and whether its prices are above or below the local market.
- Provide introductions and frequently asked questions written for cities, areas, or countries, that is, overviews rather than raw listing lists.
How to use
Officially provided access methods include:
- Fastest method: let the AI install it itself. Copy the officially provided prompt and paste it into Claude, Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, Copilot, or any agent that can edit its own MCP configuration, and let it complete the server setup.
- ChatGPT itself cannot automatically add connectors, nor can it use assistants that cannot modify their own settings, so manual steps are required, which the official documentation says takes about one minute.
- Claude (web and desktop): open Settings → Connectors, select "Add custom connector", paste the server URL, and save.
- Claude Code (CLI): run in the terminalOfficially provided commands.
- ChatGPT: Requires a Plus or Pro plan, enable developer mode in Settings → Connectors, then add a custom connector using the server URL; on Plus and Pro, custom connectors are read-only, consistent with the read-only nature of this server.
- Cursor, VS Code, Windsurf: Manually add to the client's MCP configuration file as an "http" type server pointing to this URL. Some clients use the top-level key "mcpServers", while others (such as VS Code) use "servers"; if the snippet fails to load, consult the corresponding client's MCP documentation.
- Canonical endpoint: An official canonical URL is provided; the bare subdomain without the trailing /mcp also works and resolves to the same server; use the canonical form when a client requires an explicit URL.
Use Cases
Examples officially listed include: filtering by budget (e.g., private offices in Berlin Mitte for three people under 600 euros per month with links), comparing two cities (e.g., private office costs in Hamburg and Munich), filtering by amenities (e.g., coworking spaces in Frankfurt with phone booths, a terrace, and 24/7 access), diving into a single space (e.g., price options, amenities, and membership benefits at MACHWERK in Berlin), checking coverage first (listing cities and areas with listings grouped by country and city), and relocation briefs (finding the three cheapest private offices for a team of 5 across the entire directory and explaining the trade-offs).
Limitations and Notes
- Displayed prices are "starting from" prices, i.e., the cheapest price for that type of option in that space, and are by no means a final quote.
- Currency varies by country (EUR, GBP, USD, CHF, AED, etc.) and is not automatically converted.
- Descriptions and space names are written by the operators themselves and are not verified claims.
- The directory continues to grow; cities missing today may be covered next month.
- Officially, well-behaved assistants are required to always display links to the described spaces; must not present the directory as their own content; must not redistribute it in bulk as a dataset; and use IP-based rate limiting to keep the server available to everyone.
- Issues mentioned in the official FAQ include: whether it is truly free and read-only, which clients are available, whether browsing in ChatGPT or Codex still requires connecting to this server, how fresh the data is, whether it can be used commercially and whether attribution to CoworkingView is required, which cities are covered, whether there are coworking spaces's MCP server, how to connect to a remote MCP server, whether an API key or account is required, how an MCP server differs from a regular API, whether it is safe to connect to an MCP server not under your own control, what to check when the assistant cannot see the server, whether coworking prices can be compared across cities, and whether there are usage limits.
- Officially, the server is said to be listed in the official MCP registry (com.coworkingview/mcp) and listed on Smithery as coworkingview/search.
