Poirot is a native macOS companion app for Claude Code users, designed to help users investigate and review the behavior of the AI assistant during coding sessions.
Purpose: Poirot lets you browse Claude Code session records, view code diffs in each interaction, and re-run commands. It provides a centralized interface for inspecting the AI assistant's activity, helping developers understand what happened during a session, how many resources were consumed, and how to optimize usage.
Key capabilities:
- Session analysis: Provides statistics on Token consumption, cost breakdown, model distribution, and session trends.
- Usage limits: Displays real-time subscription rate limit meters (5-hour and 7-day windows) in the dashboard and menu bar, including utilization and reset countdown, with no login required, reusing tokens already stored by Claude Code.
- Session history browser: Displays sessions grouped by project, with timestamps, model information, and Token counts.
- Rich conversation view: A complete timeline with Markdown rendering, syntax highlighting, and collapsible tool blocks.
- Tool block display: Each tool call shows its name, icon, file path, and result.
- Extended thinking: Collapsible thinking blocks displayed with a distinctive purple emphasis.
- Fuzzy search (⌘K): Spotlight-like search that can search sessions, commands, file paths, and more.
- Slash commands: Browse global and project-level commands, including descriptions and permissions.
- Skills: Explore reusable skill modules and parse their frontmatter.
- MCP servers: Real-time connection status indicators using color-coded SF Symbols.
- Models: Browse available models and their capabilities.
- Subagents: Create, edit, and manage custom subagents, with configurable tools, models, memory, and system prompts.
- Plugins: View installed plugins and their metadata.
- Output styles: Preview output format styles.
- Hooks: Event hooks grouped by type, including matcher patterns and handler details.
- Session TODOs: A to-do list for each session, with status tracking.
- Plans: Browse the ~/.claude/plans/ directory, render Markdown, and support file watching.
- Debug log viewer: Color-coded log levels, search, filtering, and paginated loading.
- Prompt history: Browse input history grouped by date and filtered by project.
- AI session summaries: Obtain goals, results, usefulness, andFriction metrics.
- Memory: automatic memory files for each project, rendering Markdown and monitoring in real time.
How to use: Poirot can be installed via Homebrew. In a development environment, SwiftLint and SwiftFormat need to be installed first via Homebrew (brew install swiftlint swiftformat), then run in Xcode by pressing ⌘R, or build from the command line. Tests use Swift Testing (@Test, #expect, #require), not XCTest.
Use cases: Suitable for macOS users who use Claude Code for programming, especially developers who want in-depth analysis of AI assistant sessions, monitor usage limits, manage subagents and skills, and review session history.
Limitations: Poirot is currently in an early stage, and many features are still planned. It only supports macOS and is designed specifically for Claude Code. The project itself states that there is no login, no tracking, no analytics, no BYOK (bring your own key), and no additional fees, and it works offline and is less than 6MB in size. It is licensed under MIT.
