About this tool

Farol is a free and open-source macOS terminal application for AI coding agents. Its core positioning is as an "agentic terminal," meaning that in addition to traditional terminal command input capabilities, it is designed specifically for supervising multiple AI coding agents.

Purpose Farol is used to run and manage AI coding agents on macOS, such as Claude Code and Codex. It is suitable for developers who need to run multiple agents simultaneously and want a centralized view of each agent's status and code changes.

Main capabilities

  • Parallel agents: Can run Claude Code and Codex sessions simultaneously, with each agent running in an independent git worktree to avoid file conflicts.
  • Status overview: The sidebar shows whether each agent is working, needs user intervention, or has completed.
  • Cross-application notifications: The "lighthouse" icon in the menu bar or the notch panel can keep status updates visible while the user is using other applications.
  • Change review and delivery: Each changed file is displayed as a diff, and can be committed directly, pushed, and have a pull request opened on GitHub or GitLab.
  • Project view: Provides a project file tree, a lightweight editor for quick fixes, and a git graph of branches and commits.
  • One-step task creation: After describing a task and selecting an agent, Farol opens a git worktree on a new branch and starts the agent.
  • Based on libghostty: Embeds Ghostty's engine, inherits its speed, themes, and configuration, and runs as a native Mac application.

How to use Press ⇧⌘N, describe the task, and select an agent; Farol will create a new git worktree branch and start Claude Code or Codex. Claude Code and Codex can report status after being connected in "Settings → Agents"; agents running in other terminals can also report status through Farol's CLI or the terminal bell. When an agent needs the user, the session dot turns yellow, macOS sends a notification, and the Dock icon shows the number of waiting sessions.

Use cases Suitable for development workflows that need to run multiple AI coding agents in parallel, centrally supervise their progress, review code changes, and complete commit and push operations.

Limitations Farol is open-source software under the MIT license. It requires an Apple silicon Mac and macOS 14 orlater versions. The official materials do not provide more information about pricing, cost, platform expansion, or other features.
