gpt-code-ui is an open-source implementation of the OpenAI ChatGPT Code Interpreter. Its core purpose is to let users directly submit tasks to the OpenAI model in natural language, and the model automatically generates and executes code to complete the corresponding operations.
Its main capabilities include: context awareness, enabling continuous conversation and task handling by referring to previous messages; running generated code through a Python kernel; and support for switching models between GPT-3.5 and GPT-4.
In terms of usage, it can be started by running the gptcode command in the terminal. To make the basic dependencies available, it is recommended to run pip install in the Python environment used by the shell running gptcode. In configuration, it supports loading the OPENAI_API_KEY environment variable through a .env file; the default ports can be overridden by setting API_PORT, WEB_PORT, and SNAKEMQ_PORT; setting OPENAI_BASE_URL can change the OpenAI API endpoint used (this environment variable includes the protocol part, such as https://...)。仓库内提供了 .env.example is a sample file, and the repository must first be cloned with git before use to obtain this file. For Azure OpenAI Services, other configurable variables such as deployment names are also provided; see .env.azure-example for details, but the model selection feature in the current UI does not yet support Azure OpenAI Services.
In terms of community, Judah Cooper initiated and maintains a Discord community, and the project also provides contribution guidelines to encourage community participation. In addition, localagi packages the Python package into a Docker container and provides the gpt-code-ui-docker image.
Applicable scenarios and limitations: This tool is suitable for development or experimental scenarios that require natural-language-driven code generation and execution, and supports local running and Docker deployment. Specific functional details, platform compatibility, performance, pricing, and other information are not currently provided.
