Thinking-Claude

Thinking-Claude is a retired open-source project aimed at making Claude think comprehensively before answering. It consists of two parts: the Thinking Protocol and the Browser Extension. The Thinking Protocol is a set of instructions that guides Claude to think deeply and systematically before answering; the Browser Extension makes Claude's thinking process easier to read and manage in the web interface, automatically organizing the thinking content into collapsible blocks, supporting one-click copying, and automatically handling new messages. The project is suitable for the free and Pro web versions of the Claude 3.5 Sonnet model. The author emphasizes that the project is not intended for benchmark tests or a major improvement in mathematical ability, but rather to explore Claude's "deep thinking," and that its internal monologue is very interesting in daily use. The repository is now retired because Claude itself is already a reasoning model with powerful built-in thinking capabilities, and the project is no longer necessary. It uses the MIT License.

About this tool

Purpose

Thinking-Claude aims to make Claude think comprehensively before giving an answer. The author states that this project does not pursue benchmark scores or a major leap in mathematical ability, but rather explores how far Claude's "deep thinking" can go. When used in daily tasks, users will find Claude's internal monologue (thinking process) very interesting. The project is designed for both the free and Pro versions of the Claude web app, in conjunction with the Claude 3.5 Sonnet model.

Main Capabilities

The project contains two main components:

  1. Thinking Protocol: A complete set of instructions that guides Claude to think deeply and systematically before answering. The model instructions are organized by version in the model_instructions/ folder, and each version improves Claude's thinking process.

  2. Browser Extension: Makes Claude's thinking process easier to read and manage in the browser interface. Features include:

    • Automatically organizing Claude's thinking into neat collapsible blocks
    • Collapsing and expanding different parts of the thinking
    • One-click copying of any part
    • Automatically handling new messages
    • A clean and modern design

The extension's code structure is as follows:

  • extensions/: Browser extension implementation
    • chrome/: Current version, using a modern architecture and features
    • chrome_v0/: Old version (deprecated)
    • firefox/: Firefox version (in development)

Usage

  3. Start chatting with Claude

The extension automatically makes Claude's thinking process easier to read.

Use cases

  • When you want more comprehensive, thoughtful answers
  • When you want to understand how Claude reaches conclusions, improving transparency
  • When you need better management of long conversations
  • When you benefit from quality control with built-in verification steps

Limitations and current status

This repository has been retired. The author explains that Claude itself is already a reasoning model with powerful built-in thinking capabilities, so this project is no longer necessary. The project uses the MIT license, and bug reports, new feature suggestions, or pull requests are welcome. The Chrome Web Store version of the extension may be outdated, and manual installation is the recommended method; the Firefox version is still under development.
