Purpose
Slatecraft is an independent AI video generation website that uses the Vidu Q4 Preview model to turn static images into dynamic video clips with sound.
Main Capabilities
- Image to Video: Use one image as the first frame to generate a video with character performance, dialogue, sound effects, and camera cuts.
- Reference to Video: Use up to 12 reference images (characters, costumes, products, and scenes) to build multi-character scenes, and reference images in the prompt using markers such as @1 and @2; up to 3 MP3 audio clips can be added to maintain character voices.
- Output Specifications: Duration 3–16 seconds, resolution from 540p to 1080p (credit packs) or up to 4K (monthly plans), output as MP4 with sound.
- Cost Control: Billed by the second, with the exact cost shown on the generate button; requests blocked before submission do not consume credits, and failed or provider-blocked generations automatically refund credits. A 5-second 720p video consumes 100 credits (approximately $0.83 for Starter, approximately $1.00 for the trial pack).
How to Use
- Add images: for Image to Video, use one as the first frame; for Reference to Video, upload up to 12 reference images.
- Write a prompt: describe who does what, what they say, and how the camera moves; in Reference to Video, reference images using @1, @2, etc.
- Choose the duration (3–16 seconds) and resolution, click generate, then download the MP4 from "My videos".
- Drafts are kept in the browser for up to 24 hours; logging in or paying will not automatically start rendering.
Use Cases
The official examples show uses including: dialogue and emotional scenes, two-person scenes, creature chases, visual effects, product commercials, and fight clips. It is suitable for creators who need to quickly turn existing images into short videos with sound.
Limitations
- An image is required as input; text-to-video is not supported, and there are no timeline editing features.
- A monthly plan or one-time credit pack must be purchased to use it.
- Completed generations consume credits even if you are not satisfied; the refund policy states a response time of 3 business days.
