About this tool

DiscoMCP is designed to solve a common problem AI agents face when using MCP servers: agents are good at writing code, but easily get lost when facing tools—they do not know which of hundreds of operations matter, how data is connected, or which operations are safe, so they can only guess or stall. DiscoMCP helps agents understand workflows, call chains, and the safety level of each tool by turning the way users actually use MCP servers into skills.

Main capabilities:

  • Generate reusable read-only skill files: point at any MCP server, and DiscoMCP will generate a skill file describing how the user uses that server, including the views, tables, records, operation sequences, and relationships between results actually used.
  • Default-deny security mechanism: DiscoMCP explores under a default-deny gate, executing an operation only when it can prove that the operation is a read. Any operation that may write, change, or delete, even if the tool claims to be harmless, will be rejected. Saved content has sensitive information stripped.
  • Deterministic security core: built with Rust, the model is responsible for thinking, and a small deterministic core enforces all security checks. Every claim in the generated skill is annotated with its source (claim, documentation, observation, or inference), preventing agents from mistaking guesses for facts.
  • Skill output location: results are saved in .discomcp/profiles/<server>/SKILL.md and can be directly put into use by an agent.

How to use:

  1. Run the tool, no installation required.
  2. Point at a server, configuration requires only a few lines.
  3. Hand it to the agent and let it explore. The agent is responsible for exploration, and DiscoMCP ensures safety and writes the skill.

Applicable scenarios:

  • Teams want to let AI agents safely learn how tools are used in production environments.
  • Need to distill usage patterns of complex MCP servers into reusable skills, reducing the number of agent trial-and-error attempts.
  • On unfamiliar or complex servers, help agents find the correct operation path faster.

Limitations:

  • The benchmark tests are small-sample, directional results, not guarantees. On simple tasks or narrow servers, the skill's own prompt cost may offset what it saves.
  • The main advantage lies in reducing round trips and achieving more stable behavior on complex servers.
  • Details such as specific installation commands and configuration examples are not fully shown in the provided materials and are not provided for now.
