About this tool

ARIA Clinical Research MCP Server is a standalone MCP (Model Context Protocol) server that provides Claude agents with real-time access to biomedical literature and clinical trials, without requiring an API key.

Purpose

This project is aimed at clinical research and life sciences scenarios, packaging commonly used biomedical data sources as MCP tools so that any Claude agent can directly search literature and trial information during a conversation, for tasks such as evidence-based queries, trial screening, and drug discovery.

Main Data Sources and Capabilities

  • PubMed: accessed through NCBI E-utilities (public API, no key required), enabling searches across more than 35 million biomedical papers.
  • ClinicalTrials.gov: accessed through the v2 REST API (public API, no key required), enabling searches across more than 400,000 clinical trials.
  • ISRCTN: UK/European clinical trial registry (public API, no key required), used to find trials in the UK and Europe.
  • Technical framework: builds the MCP server based on FastMCP.

How to Use

  1. Connect Claude Desktop: add the server configuration to ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json.
  2. Restart Claude Desktop.
  3. The server will appear under Settings → Developer → Local MCP Servers. Once connected, you can ask Claude questions, for example:
  • "Search PubMed for ketogenic diet pediatric epilepsy outcomes"
  • "Find recruiting trials for lung cancer immunotherapy"
  • "What does the literature say about veliparib in ovarian cancer, and are there active trials?"
  • "Find UK and European trials for pediatric epilepsy via ISRCTN"

Applicable Scenarios

  • Life sciences researchers need real-time literature access.
  • Clinical trial coordinators verify enrollment eligibility and recruitment status.
  • Drug discovery teams cross-reference published evidence with ongoing trials.
  • Any Claude agent that needs reliable biomedical knowledge.
