gnuradioMCP is an MCP server for GNU Radio, formerly GNURadio/GR-MCP, used to carry out radio frequency (RF)-related work in an LLM-driven way in Claude Code.
Purpose: Users can describe in natural language what they want to achieve "over the air," and the tool will accordingly conduct spectrum surveys, set up and run receivers, inspect signals, and leave behind reproducible RF projects, with outputs including SigMF captures, YAML pipelines, and .grc flowgraphs (GNU Radio flowgraphs) that users own themselves. At its core is creating and modifying GNU Radio RF flowgraphs (.grc files).
Main capabilities: According to the repository description, it provides multiple skills to cover different workflows:
- survey-spectrum: See what is currently present, including PSD, signal detection, and spectrograms.
- simulate-scene: Register a simulated device based on a description.
- build-receiver: Perform channelization, demodulation, verification, running, confirmation, and saving.
- debug-no-signal: Locate faults when the receiver has no output.
- tx-experiment: Implement a closed-loop "transmit first, then receive" experiment in simulation.
- escape-hatch: When no suitable tool is available, fall back to using Python libraries.
How to use: The environment requires uv and Python >= 3.13. Running pipelines and simulations requires a system-level installation of GNU Radio 3.10+ (installable via conda-forge, a distribution package manager, or Homebrew); only analyzing existing IQ files does not require installing GNU Radio. Just use it in Claude Code, and uv will start the MCP server and load skills on first use, with no other configuration required. After that, you can ask questions in natural language, such as "Simulate an FM station at 100.3 MHz and build me a receiver." or "Here's a capture, mystery.wav — survey what's on the air, then decode the strongest carrier."
Outputs and workspace: Artifacts will land in the artifacts/ under the server working directory; they can be placed elsewhere by setting the MARCONI_WORKSPACE environment variable.
Applicable scenarios: Suitable for completing RF simulation, spectrum surveys, receiver setup and debugging, transmit-receive closed-loop experiments, and generating and retaining reproducible RF project files (SigMF captures, YAML pipelines, .grc flowgraphs) through conversation in Claude Code.
Limitations: The project is in an early development stage, and v1.0 supports only simulation, not yet hardware; see ROADMAP.md for more plans. The license is GPL-3.0-or-later. Other information about fees, pricing, or specific platform support is not currently provided.
