About this tool

Scrnify is a web capture tool for developers and automated workflows. Its core purpose is to convert any URL into an image or video file, making it convenient to directly use deployed addresses to generate screenshots or short videos in CI tasks, agent scripts, documentation, tests, and product workflows.

Main capabilities Supports generating capture results through a single API or CLI. Image formats support PNG, JPEG, and WebP; video formats support MP4, WebM, and animated GIF. You can use full-page screenshot mode (fullPage=true), or use a CSS selector parameter to capture a specified element, and it will wait for the element to be visible before capturing. Supports custom viewport sizes, waiting for dynamic page content to load, and different capture modes such as fixed viewport, element, full page, and video. API requests can return a JSON response with the same file URL, or return a 307 redirect. Supports API keys, HMAC-SHA256 signed requests, HTTPS transport, and cache control, making it suitable for production environment integration.

How to use It can be called via CLI in the terminal or CI, for example: $ scrnify capture https://example.com --type image --format png --full-page. The API key can be loaded from the CI environment. After success, you can obtain the asset URL for use in subsequent shell steps. In addition to the CLI, you can also call the API directly: pass in the target URL and complete API key authentication to obtain a screenshot or video from the same endpoint. In no-code workflows, it can be integrated with automation tools and databases to achieve repeated captures. For more details about signed requests, caching, video duration, full-page mode, and selector capture, refer to the official documentation or the OpenAPI 3.1 specification.

Use cases Suitable for repetitive tasks such as converting deployment preview URLs into screenshots or short videos, generating screenshots in CI tasks, providing output URLs for agent scripts, creating documentation screenshots, monitoring, and social previews. The official site states there have already been 7,963,605 captures.

Limitations and notes It uses remote browser infrastructure, so there is no need to run Chrome, Playwright, or Puppeteer locally or maintain a screenshot worker, and no need to install sandbox parameters, font packages, or handle memory leaks and worker cleanup. Billing is pay-as-you-go: if an account has accumulated less than 100 lifetime units of usage before a request, that request is free; after enabling valid billing, you can also get 100 free units per billing cycle. There is no fixed monthly fee and no minimum monthly spend. A successful screenshot that does not hit the cache counts as 1 unit; successful videos are billed by request duration in seconds; failures and successful cache hits both count as 0 units. Tiered rates are used, and exceeding 2,000 units will not reprice previous usage. Example: 5,000 units cost €16 + €15 = €31 (excluding free usage). Specific definitions and examples are subject to the official pricing page. The materials do not provide other limitations, supported platforms, or specific performance metrics.
