GradGPT is a tool that uses artificial intelligence to simplify the college application process, primarily aimed at students, parents, and admissions consultants. It offers a range of specialized features, including essay scoring, profile evaluation, college matching, and application consulting. Built by former admissions officers, the tool aims to provide ethical AI assistance to help applicants create more competitive application materials.
In terms of main capabilities, GradGPT provides essay scoring and feedback, capable of simulating admissions officers' evaluation standards, optimizing essays based on internal college scoring rules, identifying clichéd topics and red flags that may lead to rejection, and suggesting directions for revision. It also provides profile evaluation to help users understand their competitiveness; the college matching feature can recommend suitable institutions based on the user's situation; and application consulting services. After users paste their essays into the platform, they receive instant expert feedback and can quickly improve through multiple iterations. The platform also allows users to compare their own essays with admitted essays from top universities such as Yale, Harvard, and Stanford.
In terms of usage, users can start using it for free without a credit card. The platform offers some free tools and trials, but the specific pricing model is not yet available. GradGPT emphasizes that its tools will not write any content of the essay for users, but instead provide advice and ask questions like a mentor, helping users write in their own voice.
Applicable scenarios include high school and college students using it when applying to college or graduate school, and it is also suitable for admissions consultants to provide feedback to students. According to the information, between 2024-26, more than 16,500 GradGPT students gained admission to T20+ universities. The platform has more than 500,000 student users.
In terms of limitations, GradGPT is not a chatbot, but an AI tool specifically designed for college application preparation, so ChatGPT's help in this area is limited. The platform complies with AI ethics policies and does not write essays on behalf of users, so it will not trigger AI detection issues. For eligible students (such as those receiving free or reduced-price school meals, having Common App/SAT/ACT fee waivers, state wards, or Title I school students), free access to the platform can be requested by emailing founders@gradgpt.com. Specific pricing, more technical details, and the languages supported by the platform are not yet available.
