About this tool

Purpose: Memoriq is a private AI memory vault designed to keep valuable conversations from different AI products (ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Grok) in one encrypted, portable memory vault, making it easy to search, organize by project, export, and delete later, without having to hand plaintext to another SaaS database.

Main capabilities: save AI conversations from ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, and Grok via a browser extension; encrypt chat titles, metadata, projects, source URLs, and message bodies in the browser before upload; organize saved conversations into projects; conversations not assigned to a project are kept in an "Uncategorized" view; search decrypted conversation data in the browser after unlocking; display the original chat URL, source, date, and encrypted payload size; support manual "paste AI reply" saving; support export and import of encrypted vault backup JSON.

Encryption and storage approach: by design, the server does not receive plaintext chat content or user-visible metadata. The server stores encrypted conversation headers, encrypted conversation bodies, encrypted key envelopes and salts, as well as operational fields such as row ID, user ID, timestamp, and byte size. Encryption is performed in the browser using the locally unwrapped master encryption key. If both the encryption password and recovery key are forgotten, Memoriq cannot recover the chats.

How to use: the user logs in to Memoriq; the extension connects via /extension/connect; the extension stores a scoped Sanctum token; the user unlocks the encrypted vault in the extension; the extension extracts supported AI chat pages; the extension locally encrypts headers and bodies; only ciphertext is uploaded. The extension can save in two ways: a floating button on supported chat pages, or a preferred project selector in the extension popup. The extension can be installed from the Chrome Web Store or loaded locally as unpacked.

Current status and roadmap: Memoriq is in Beta. The encrypted vault, browser extension, mobile sharing, search, export, and import flows are currently available, and ongoing improvements focus on scraping reliability, media support, and polish. The extension scrapes supported AI pages via best-effort DOM extraction; because provider UIs change frequently, some scrapes may miss or misread content; manual paste, mobile sharing, and encrypted import/export provide fallback paths. Mobile supports manual saving, and there is a PWA share target via the /share route, but this feature is still in development and may currently receive only the shared link rather than the full chat content. This version does not retain media files such as images, audio, or video; the current focus is on reliable and private preservation of useful text conversations, with more complete media support planned on the roadmap.

Planned improvements: better provider-specific extraction tests; more reliable scraping for changing AI provider DOMs; browser-side search improvements; an optional semantic search design that does not break the privacy model; more import paths for existing exported chats; better handling of media attachments and rich conversation exports.

Development and licensing: the repository contains the Memoriq Web app. Local development requires Node.js and npm; clone and install, configure .env, run migrations, build or watch the frontend assets, and then serve it with a local web server, for example by creating an Apache virtual host on WAMP pointing to the public/ directory; Laravel's built-in commands can also be used for quick testing. The tech stack includes Laravel Sanctum, Fortify, and browser-side encryption/decryption. Issues, bug reports, and small pull requests are welcome around provider scraping defects, security reviews, UX simplification, and local setup friction; when reporting extension scraping issues, please include the extension version, missing or duplicated content, and whether the title/URL/message body is incorrect. Do not publicly file security vulnerabilities as issues; use GitHub private vulnerability reporting or the contact method on memoriq.me.
