JobGPT MCP Server is JobGPT's official MCP (Model Context Protocol) server, used to connect AI assistants with the JobGPT platform so that users can directly perform job-search-related actions within AI tools.
Purpose Through this server, users can issue job-search instructions to AI assistants in natural language, such as: find remote senior React positions with salaries over $150,000, automatically apply to the top 5 best-matching jobs in a job search, generate a tailored resume for a certain Google application, apply to a job at a specified link (supporting company websites, Greenhouse, Workday, LinkedIn, etc.), view application statistics for the last 7 days, and find recruiters for a certain position and draft outreach emails.
Main capabilities The server connects AI assistants with the JobGPT platform and provides a total of 34 tools, covering job search, job applications, resume generation and management, outreach communication, and application tracking. The categories listed in the materials include Profile & Salary and Available Tools, but the specific names and parameters of all 34 tools are not listed one by one.
How to use There are two connection methods, depending on the AI tool being used:
- Browser login (recommended): no API Key, no JSON, no Node.js required. Simply add the server URL and log in to 6figr in the browser. Suitable for Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Codex CLI (codex mcp login), and ChatGPT Web (developer mode). This method uses OAuth, the API Key does not enter the Claude configuration, and Claude receives a restricted token.
- API Key: suitable for the ChatGPT desktop app, Cursor, Windsurf, Cline, Continue, and manual configuration. The key needs to be pasted into the tool configuration.
Obtaining an API Key (only required for the API Key method): visit 6figr.com/account, scroll to MCP Integrations, click Generate API Key, and copy the key starting with sk_. The browser login method does not require this step; the key is obtained automatically after logging in.
Key configuration points for each client:
- Claude Desktop: browser login is recommended; open Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector, name it JobGPT, and enter the URL https://mcp.6figr.com/mcp,点击 After Connect, log in and Approve in the browser. If older versions of Claude Desktop do not show Connectors, you can use mcp-remote with an API Key, which requires Node.js 18+; the configuration file path is macOS: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json, Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json.
- Claude Code (CLI): browser login is recommended; after adding the server, authenticate in the browser, then run /mcp within Claude Code, select jobgpt → Connect and log in. It also supports a one-line claude mcp add command using an API Key, or manually editing ~/.claude/settings.json.
- Codex CLI (ChatGPT): run codex mcp login to open the browser, log in to 6figr, and authorize; Codex stores a restricted OAuth token (OAuth 2.1 + PKCE), with no API Key required. It also supports using an API Key via header.
- ChatGPT desktop app: use an API Key. Open Settings → Connectors → Advanced/Developer → Connect to a custom MCP, with type Streamable HTTP, and URL https://mcp.6figr.com/mcp,Headers Add Key as Authorization and Value as Bearer your-api-key-here. The desktop dialog authenticates via header, has no browser login button, requires the sk_ key, and leaves the environment variable field blank.
- ChatGPT Web (developer mode): browser login (OAuth). Enable Settings → Connectors → Advanced → Developer mode in the web app, then Add custom connector, name it JobGPT, and enter the URL https://mcp.6figr.com/mcp,在弹窗中登录 6figr and authorized, no API Key required. Developer mode is available for Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise, and Edu plans.
- Cursor: Settings > MCP > Add new MCP server, or add to ~/.cursor/mcp.json.
- Windsurf: Settings > Cascade > MCP > Add Server > Add custom server, or add to ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json.
- Cline (VS Code): Open the Cline MCP settings in VS Code and add.
- Continue (VS Code / JetBrains): Add to ~/.continue/config.yaml.
Alternative: run locally (requires Node.js 18+).
Environment variables Environment variables need to be set in the configuration; the server reads configurations such as the API Key (JOBGPT_API_KEY).
Use cases Suitable for job seekers who want to centrally complete job searches, batch automatic applications, generate customized resumes for specific jobs, manage application records, and contact recruiters and write outreach emails through MCP-compatible AI tools such as Claude, Cursor, and Windsurf.
Limitations and notes
- The browser login method is not supported by all clients and is only applicable to Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Codex CLI, and ChatGPT Web; the ChatGPT desktop app, Cursor, Windsurf, Cline, and Continue require an API Key.
- Running locally requires Node.js 18+.
- Some operations (automatic applications, resume generation) consume credits; when credits run out, they must be purchased at 6figr.com/jobgpt.
- If "JOBGPT_API_KEY environment variable is required" appears, it means the key was not passed to the server; check the env block in the MCP configuration.
- If a tool call returns "API Error (401)", it means the key is invalid or expired and must be regenerated at 6figr.com/account.
- If the server does not appear in the AI tool, confirm that Node.js 18+ is installed (node --version), restart the AI tool after editing the configuration, or manually run with JOBGPT_API_KEY=your-key npx jobgpt-mcp-server to check for errors; you can add "DEBUG": "true" to the env configuration to view detailed API request/response logs (output to stderr).
- You can test using MCP Inspector.
Information such as fees, pricing, and specific platform coverage is not fully provided in the materials.
