What is Claude-Mem
Claude-Mem is designed specifically for Claude Code An open-source plugin designed to provide AI with long-term memory capabilities. Claude-Mem solves the problem of AI easily forgetting across sessions by automatically storing and managing key information from conversations, including tool calls, conversation records, and project structure. Claude-Mem features include persistent memory across sessions, progressive recall, historical queries, and a structured knowledge base, helping developers reduce repetitive work, improve development efficiency, and enabling AI to maintain continuity and high efficiency in long-term projects.
Main features of Claude-Mem
- Persistent memory across sessions: Automatically stores key information from sessions (such as tool call results, conversation records, etc.), ensuring that context does not need to be re-explained in new sessions and maintaining continuity of context.
- Progressive recall: Presents memory using a three-layer structure of index -> summary -> original text, loading content on demand, saving tokens, and avoiding information overload.
- Historical queries: Supports searching past records through natural language, quickly finding relevant tool outputs, conversation summaries, and complete content, improving query efficiency.
- Structured knowledge base: Converts historical information into a searchable database and vector index, forming a project-level knowledge base that helps AI quickly understand project progress.
- Automatic recording of the development process: Automatically captures tool calls, file operations, error logs, etc., reducing manual archiving work and avoiding repetitive work caused by loss of context.
- Privacy control: Use
<private>tags to exclude sensitive content and ensure data security. - Smart search: Provides
mem-searchskills, querying project history through natural language, saving about 2,250 tokens. - Automatic operation: No manual intervention required, automatically injects context, runs transparently, and improves the user experience.
How to use Claude-Mem
- Install the plugin: In the Claude Code terminal, enter the following command to add and install the Claude-Mem plugin:
/plugin marketplace add thedotmack/claude-mem
/plugin install claude-mem
- Restart Claude Code: After installation is complete, restart the Claude Code application. After restarting, the context from the previous session will be automatically loaded into the new session.
- Use Web Viewer UI: Open the Web Viewer UI (the default address is http://localhost:37777),能实时查看记忆流、历史记录以及进行搜索操作。
- Query historical records: By asking questions in natural language (for example, "What did we discuss last time?" or "What issues did we fix before?"), Claude will automatically invoke the mem-search skill and quickly return relevant historical records.
- Privacy control: In a conversation, use the <private> tag to wrap sensitive information; the content will not be stored or retrieved, ensuring privacy and security.
- Try the Beta version: If you want to try experimental features (such as Endless Mode), switch to the Beta version in the settings of the Web Viewer UI.
