What is Zonos
Zonos is a high-fidelitytext-to-speech(TTS) model launched by Zyphra. Zonos includes two models: a 1.6-billion-parameter Transformer model and an SSM hybrid model, both open-sourced under the Apache 2.0 license. Zonos generates natural, highly expressive speech based on text prompts and speaker embeddings, supportsvoice cloningfeatures, can adjust parameters such as speech rate, pitch, and emotion, and outputs at a sampling rate of 44kHz. The model is trained on approximately 200,000 hours of multilingual speech data, mainly supports English, and has limited support for other languages. Zonos provides an optimized inference engine, supports fast speech generation, and is suitable for real-time applications.
Zonos's Main Features
- Zero-shot TTS and voice cloning: Input text and a 10-30 second speaker sample to generate high-quality TTS output.
- Audio prefix input: By adding text and audio prefixes, more accurately match the speaker's voice, and achieve behaviors that are difficult to replicate through speaker embeddings, such as whispering.
- Multilingual support: Supports English, Japanese, Chinese, French, and German.
- Audio quality and emotion control: Supports fine-grained control of speech rate, pitch, maximum frequency, audio quality, and various emotions.
Zonos's Technical Principles
- Text preprocessing: Performs text normalization and phonemization based on the eSpeak tool, converting input text into a phoneme sequence.
- Feature prediction: Uses a Transformer or Hybrid Backbone to predict DAC (Discrete Audio Codec) tokens.
- Speech generation: Based on the predicted DAC tokens, uses an Autoencoder to decode and generate high-quality speech output.

Zonos's Application Scenarios
- Audiobooks and online education: Convert text content into natural and fluent speech, providing high-quality voice narration for audiobooks and online courses.
- Virtual assistants and customer service: In virtual assistants and customer service systems, generate natural voice interactions, providing a more humanized user experience.
- Multimedia content creation: In video production, animation, and advertising, generate high-quality narration and dubbing.
- Accessibility technology: Provide voice reading services for visually impaired people, converting the content of web pages, documents, and books into speech to help them better access information.
- Games and interactive entertainment: In games and interactive entertainment applications, generate character dialogue and narration to enhance the game's immersion.
