What is Voila
Voila is an open-source end-to-end speech large model designed specifically for voice interaction. It features high-fidelity, low-latency real-time streaming audio processing capabilities, can directly process voice input and generate voice output, providing users with a smooth and natural interaction experience. Voila integrates speech and language modeling capabilities, supports millions of pre-built and custom voices, and users can easily customize the speaker's characteristics and voice through text instructions or audio samples. It includes two main models: Voila-e2e for end-to-end voice dialogue, and Voila-autonomous for autonomous interaction. A single model can support multiple audio tasks, reducing development and deployment costs.
Voila's main features
- Real-time voice interaction: Voila can achieve low-latency voice dialogue. Users can directly communicate with the model using voice, and the model processes voice input in real time to generate voice replies, as smooth and natural as talking to a real person.
- Multi-turn dialogue capability: Supports multi-turn voice dialogue. The model can understand the user's intent based on context and make coherent responses.
- Pre-built voice library: Voila has millions of pre-built voices, covering voice types with different genders, ages, tones, and other characteristics. Users can choose voices according to their preferences, for example, they can choose a gentle female voice, a deep male voice, or a lively cartoon voice to communicate with the model.
- Custom voices: Users can also customize voices through text instructions and audio samples. For example, users can upload a voice sample they are familiar with and use instructions to make the model imitate this voice for dialogue, making the interaction more personalized.
- Speech translation: After a small amount of adaptation, Voila can be used for multilingual speech translation. Users can speak in one language, and the model translates it into another language and outputs it as speech, facilitating communication between people with different language backgrounds.
Voila's technical principles
- High-fidelity, low-latency, real-time streaming audio processing: Voila achieves high-fidelity, low-latency real-time streaming audio processing, and can conduct full-duplex dialogue with an ultra-low latency of 195 milliseconds, surpassing the average human reaction time.
- Efficient integration of speech and language modeling capabilities: Voila efficiently integrates speech and language modeling capabilities, combining the reasoning ability of large language models (LLMs) with powerful acoustic modeling. This makes the model more accurate and natural when understanding speech content and generating voice replies, improving the overall quality of interaction.
- Hierarchical multi-scale Transformer architecture: Voila adopts a hierarchical multi-scale Transformer architecture, combining the reasoning ability of large language models with acoustic modeling. It can achieve natural, character-aware speech generation, and users can define the speaker's identity, tone, and other characteristics through simple text instructions.
- Unified model design: Voila is designed as a unified model suitable for a variety of speech applications, including automatic speech recognition (ASR), text-to-speech (TTS), and multilingual speech translation after a small amount of adaptation. This unified model design reduces development and deployment costs and improves the model's versatility and flexibility.
- Powerful voice customization capability: Voila supports more than one million pre-built voices and can efficiently customize new voices from audio samples as short as 10 seconds.
