Purpose
Photo to Text is an online OCR (Optical Character Recognition) tool used to extract text from images, PDFs, and screenshots, avoiding manual re-typing. It is suitable for converting text from photos, screenshots, and scans into editable text, and copying it to notes, Word, Docs, email, or continuing to export as Word or Excel files.
Main Capabilities
- Supports file formats such as JPG, PNG, WEBP, GIF, BMP, HEIC, TIFF, and PDF.
- Provides two OCR modes:
- Simple / Fast: 1 credit/page, suitable for clear printed text and documents, faster.
- Advanced: 10 credits/page, higher accuracy, supports styles, headings, and tables, more thorough.
- Provides dedicated converters: JPG to Word, JPG to Excel, which can convert text in images into editable .docx or tables (downloadable as XLSX, CSV, TSV).
- Results can be copied directly or downloaded as files.
- No registration required to get started.
How to Use
- Add a photo or PDF: drag JPG, PNG, PDF, or other files into the converter, or click to browse, or paste from the clipboard.
- Extract text: run OCR to extract text from the image; if the image is more complex, choose Advanced mode.
- Copy text: copy the results to Word, notes, or email; if you need a file, open JPG to Word or JPG to Excel to get it.
Use Cases
- Extract text from images without re-typing.
- Convert screenshots, phone photos, PDFs, and everyday documents into editable text.
- Import row and column data from receipts, invoices, screenshot tables, and paper forms into spreadsheets for easy editing and downloading.
- Screenshots where text cannot be selected (apps lock selection or text exists only in the image).
- Convert scanned documents and PDF pages into searchable, reusable text.
- When a Word file is needed: convert scans, screenshots, and photos of locked documents into editable Word files, which can insert images, plain text, or preserve formatting.
Limitations
- Simple mode is suitable for clear screenshots and printed pages, but may be insufficient for blurry photos, skewed pages, handwriting, crowded layouts, or table images; Advanced mode is more suitable for these cases.
- Simple mode consumes 1 credit per page, Advanced mode consumes 10 credits per page, but the free quota and credit acquisition methods are not yet provided.
- For complex documents with layout awareness, you can try the OCR model converter, but specific availability is not yet provided.
- Whether other formats are supported beyond the file formats above is not yet provided.
