FloorGen is a free, browser-based floor plan drawing and 3D visualization tool. It is intended for general users, real estate professionals, interior designers, architects, and teaching scenarios that need to plan and present interior spaces.
[Purpose] Users can freehand draw floor plans in the browser, or trace floor plans from existing images or PDFs, and after setting the scale, the tool automatically suggests walls. Floor plans can be converted directly into 3D models for orbiting, dollhouse view, or eye-level walkthroughs. All editing is done on the same drawing, and after modifying walls, the area, 3D model, check results, and printed drawings update synchronously.
[Main capabilities] Drawing and tracing: Walls can snap, and rooms close automatically; PNG, JPG, WebP, GIF, or PDF floor plans can be imported, and by clicking two points with a known distance to set the scale, FloorGen will suggest walls, which users can accept or skip, and can also draw over the image. Furniture and finishes: About 3,000 furniture models are provided, covering 14 categories, including kitchens, bathrooms, cars, workbenches, and garage shelving. Each face of every wall can have an independent paint or finish, and floors can be marble, ceramic, or wood. 3D and video: Each floor plan is itself a 3D model, and can be viewed by orbiting, opened in dollhouse mode, or walked through at eye level. MP4 walkthrough videos can be exported in 16:9, 9:16, or 1:1 aspect ratios, up to 1440p, with subtitles; read-only HTML files can also be shared. Drawing sets and export: Plan, elevation, and section drawings can be generated from Letter to ARCH D and A4 to A1, with title blocks, addresses, and revision numbers. Export formats include PDF drawing sets with title blocks, PNG (up to 4,500 pixels), SVG, DXF (R12, layered by object type), glTF 3D models, and MP4 and WebM videos. DWG or IFC export is not supported; DXF can also be imported, and walls, doors, and windows arrive as editable objects. Code checks: IRC (United States), NBC (Canada), OBC (Ontario), UK Approved Documents, DIN (Germany), CDMX (Mexico City), or a generic code set can be selected. Checks are performed during editing, and issues indicate the room, rule, and required fixes, and can be marked as resolved. It is explicitly stated officially that this is a design aid, not permit approval, and must be confirmed with the local building department. AI and MCP: After logging in, FloorGen AI can be invoked in the editor with Ctrl+I, text can be entered or a sketch photo uploaded, and each change is served as an editableUndo step display. Clients such as Claude, ChatGPT, and Cursor can also be connected via MCP. The MCP server provides 152 tools, 15 resources, and 12 prompts, directly reading and modifying real drawings rather than images. Connecting requires creating a key, and read-only, edit, or full access permissions can be set per project, along with an expiration date. By default it includes a trial run, a recoverable recycle bin, and checkpoints before major changes.
[How to Use] Open the website to start drawing. Projects are saved in the browser by default, with no installation or account required. After logging in for free, you can export, sync to the cloud, and use AI chat within the editor. Choose feet and inches (accurate to 1/16 inch) or metric (accurate to 1 millimeter); areas can be displayed in square feet, square meters, or square yards. It supports mobile, tablet, and desktop browsers, with larger screens being better suited for detailed drawing.
[Use Cases] Homeowners and renters can use it to plan room layouts and measure furniture placement; interior designers and architects can arrange furniture, generate drawing sets, and take clients on 3D walkthroughs; real estate professionals can trace floor plans from photos or PDFs, calculate room areas and renovation budgets, and send read-only HTML or videos; educational settings can use it to explain the principles of floor plans. The official offering also includes single-room planners, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, living room, and garage planners, as well as 3D floor plans, floor plan generation from images, an AI floor plan generator, and free calculators.
[Limitations] The official documentation clearly states that there is no photorealistic rendering, DWG or IFC export is not supported, and the budget feature does not include framing and MEP quantity takeoff. Code checks are a design aid rather than permit approval. Free exports may carry a small FloorGen badge, which paid plans can remove. Because image recognition is semi-automatic, each wall must be checked, and omissions must be drawn in manually.
