GeniusPal

GeniusPal is a study tool that turns study notes, PDFs, and PowerPoint slides into AI-generated quizzes, flashcards, and active recall exercises, designed to help users test how well they have mastered knowledge in an exam-question format. After users upload materials, the system generates exam-style questions with explanations and provides retries for missed questions and progress tracking. It supports formats such as PDF, PPTX, Word, plain text, Markdown, and CSV, and you can start for free without a credit card.

About this tool

GeniusPal is a study tool for students preparing for exams, whose core purpose is to turn users' own notes, lecture slides, documents, or web links into exam-style practice questions. It emphasizes "practice by testing," helping not only with review but also with discovering knowledge gaps.

The main capabilities include three practice modes: Quiz, Flashcards, and Active recall (i.e., written-answer responses). After users upload materials once, the same material can generate all three practice formats without needing to regenerate them. Each question includes an answer explanation and, where possible, cites the original sentence from the source material so users know where the answer comes from. The distractors in multiple-choice questions are drawn from real, similar concepts in the same material, avoiding scores obtained by guessing.

GeniusPal also supports using past exam papers as a reference for "question-setting style." Users can upload a past exam paper, and the system analyzes how that paper asks questions—frequently tested topics, question-type proportions (multiple choice or written), difficulty tendencies, and command words—then uses the same style to generate questions based on the user's notes. The content of the exam paper itself is not copied into the questions; all facts and answers still come from the user's notes. This feature is most obvious in written practice; according to official testing, the proportion of questions that require describing a scenario before asking the question increased from 1/10 to 7/10.

In terms of use, after users upload files, the system generates a set of questions. The free plan generates 10 questions per session, while paid plans allow up to 30 and unlock flashcards and written active recall. Each practice round is scored and tracks which knowledge points have been mastered and which remain weak. Missed questions can be repeatedly retried until mastered. The system also shows the current estimated score and topics needing improvement.

The main use case is students preparing for exams, especially subjects requiring a great deal of memorization and understanding, such as biology. It is also used by students at some universities.

In terms of limitations: there is currently no Anki, Quizlet, or CSV export function, and questions can only be used within GeniusPal; it does not read PDFs of purely handwritten photos (without a text layer), and older .ppt files must first be saved as .pptx; the upload file size limit is 10 MB. The free plan provides 2 study kits, which are a one-time quota for the account, not reset monthly; the paid Student plan is $14.99 per month (100 kits/month), and Genius is $59.99 per year (with a fair-use cap of 1000 kits/month). Specific prices and plan details are subject to the official page. User-uploaded content is private by default and is used only to generate study kits; deleting a kit removes it from the account.Remove.
