Himalayas MCP Server is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) integration tool for a remote job marketplace, allowing users to access Himalayas' remote job database and company information in real time through AI conversations. It works with any AI platform that supports MCP servers, including Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Claude Cowork, ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor, Windsurf, VS Code, Openclaw, and Microsoft Copilot Studio.
Main capabilities
-
Search remote jobs: The AI assistant can search more than 100,000 job listings on the Himalayas marketplace in real time, with support for filtering by salary, country, experience level, employment type, skills, and other criteria. Each result includes the full job description, salary range, company details, screening questions, and a direct application link. You can use get_related_jobs to find similar jobs, or use get_job_details to get the full job posting information.
-
Query salary data: Get salary benchmarks for remote jobs by job title, seniority, and country, returning minimum, median, and maximum salaries denominated in USD, with fuzzy matching supported for job titles.
-
Post remote jobs: Describe your hiring needs in natural language, and the AI will structure and submit the job posting. Posting jobs on Himalayas is free, with no forms or dashboard required. It supports screening questions (boolean, text, multiple choice), salary ranges, skill tags, and optional paid promotion (featured $199, newsletter $99). You can also use the post_job_public tool to post without a Himalayas account.
-
Find remote candidates: Search 100,000+ remote candidate profiles by keyword, country, and skills, completely free, with no account or API key required. Every candidate has opted in to remote work. Results include the candidate's current job title, company, skills, salary expectations, and job search status. You can send messages directly on Himalayas for free with no limit.
-
Research remote companies: Get complete company profiles, including tech stack, benefits, open positions, employee count, and social links, for comparative research before applying or hiring.
-
Track job applications: Save jobs to a kanban-style application tracker, with support for status (saved, applied, interviewing, negotiating, offered, archived), excitement rating, salary notes, and free-text notes.
-
Manage career profile: Update your Himalayas profile through conversation, add work experience and education background, and set your job search status. The profile is visible to employers searching the talent pool.
How to use
Server URL (recommended, Streamable HTTP):https://mcp.himalayas.app/mcp Server URL (SSE legacy fallback):https://mcp.himalayas.app/sse
Claude Desktop configuration: Open the configuration file (macOS/Linux: ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json; Windows: %APPDATA%\Claude\claude_desktop_config.json), add the Himalayas MCP server, save, and restart Claude Desktop.
MCP support for ChatGPT and Gemini is being rolled out gradually. You can configure the MCP server in settings and use the server URL https://mcp.himalayas.app/mcp。
Cursor supports one-click installation (visit himalayas.app/mcp and click the install button), or set it up manually: open Cursor Settings → MCP → Add server, and select "Command" as the type.
Windsurf: Edit ~/.codeium/windsurf/mcp_config.json, save, and restart Windsurf.
Microsoft Copilot Studio: Add the server URL in the MCP configuration https://mcp.himalayas.app/mcp。
Openclaw: Use the server URL in the MCP configuration https://mcp.himalayas.app/mcp。
Any MCP-compatible client such as VS Code, Zed, Cline, or Continue can connect to the above URL.
Authentication
Public tools (job search, salary data, company research, talent search) require no authentication or API key. Tools that require authentication use OAuth 2.1 with PKCE. The first time you use profile, tracker, or employer tools, the AI assistant will open a secure login page. After logging in with a free Himalayas account, the session automatically refreshes the token.
Use cases
Job seekers can use AI to search remote jobs, look up salary benchmarks, track application progress, and manage career profiles; employers can use AI to post jobs, search candidates, research companies, and compare salaries; any AI workflow that needs real-time remote work market data can integrate it.
Limitations and notes
A Node.js environment is required (you can check with node --version). After configuration changes, restart the AI assistant. If you encounter authentication issues, you can clear the authentication cache: rm -rf ~/.mcp-auth. Employer tools require ensuring that the Himalayas account is linked to a company. MCP support for ChatGPT and Gemini is still being rolled out gradually.
Other access methods
In addition to the MCP server, Himalayas also provides a remote work API (a free public JSON API, including an OpenAPI 3.1 specification and examples in multiple languages), a remote work RSS feed (XML for the most recent 100 jobs), and an embeddable widget (display a real-time job list on a webpage with one line of code).
