Wedetect.ai is a free AI image detector designed to help users quickly determine whether a photo, image, or screenshot was generated by AI or actually taken. It requires no registration, supports drag-and-drop, paste, or click-to-upload images, and after analysis the uploaded images are deleted and not stored or shared.
Main capabilities:
- Detect AI-generated images: Analyze images through machine learning models to identify traces of AI generation, returning a probability value rather than a simple "yes/no" conclusion.
- Support multiple formats: PNG, JPG, WEBP, HEIC.
- Cover multiple generators: Can detect images generated by Midjourney, DALL·E, Stable Diffusion, Flux, Grok, and others.
- Apply to multiple scenarios: Including identifying fraudulent product images, verifying real estate photos, discovering misleading images in false information, identifying fake damage photos, detecting AI avatars in dating and social apps, discovering deepfake identities, identifying AI images in news, checking whether photos used as evidence are authentic, and more.
- Effective on photos of people: The model is trained on real and AI-generated photos of people, places, and objects, and can be used to detect avatars, dating photos, social media images, and digital art.
How to use: Visit wedetect.ai, drag and drop, paste, or click to upload an image, and get instant results. No registration required, completely free.
Accuracy and limitations: Officially stated accuracy is about 89% on modern AI generators, and specific data and weak points for each generator are publicly disclosed. Detection results are only estimates, not evidence, and false positives and false negatives may occur. They should not be used as the sole basis, and important matters need to be verified with other methods. For lightly retouched or AI-enhanced photos, detection scores are usually lower and uncertainty is higher; for face-swap videos and tampered faces, it is recommended to use a deepfake detector. This tool mainly targets images generated entirely by AI. For edited photos, a metadata checker can be used in combination to view editing software and AI tags.
Privacy: Uploaded images are deleted after analysis and are not retained, shared, or hosted. Only the judgment result and link are shared.
Other information: This tool is included by the Texas Tech University Libraries and the Journalist's Toolbox. The official site also provides more pages on topics such as how AI image detectors work, how to determine whether an image was generated by AI, how to check whether an image is AI, whether an image is AI or real, AI art detection, dating profile photo checks, real estate photo verification, how to determine whether a photo is fake, image source lookup, and whether a person is real.
