Purpose
BotBell MCP Server is used to let AI assistants (such as Claude, Cursor, etc.) send push notifications to the user's iPhone, iPad, and Mac. After configuration, the AI assistant can push task results, alerts, and reminders to the user's phone, read the user's replies in the BotBell app and continue processing, and manage bots (PAT mode only).
Main Capabilities
- Send notifications: push task results, alerts, and reminders to the phone.
- Read replies: the user replies in the BotBell app, and the AI reads it and continues processing.
- Manage bots: list and create bots (PAT mode only).
- Support action buttons: add interactive buttons to notifications so users can reply with a tap without typing. When the user taps an action, botbell_get_replies returns the action key and message content.
- Support Markdown.
- Support multi-bot management: additional Bot Tokens can be configured via the BOTBELL_EXTRA_TOKENS environment variable, in the format alias1:bt_token1,alias2:bt_token2. After configuring extra tokens, botbell_send and botbell_get_replies can use the alias parameter to route messages through a specific extra token; in PAT mode, botbell_list_bots will show the extra bots; when no alias is specified, the primary token BOTBELL_TOKEN is used by default.
Usage
Authentication Modes
Two token types are supported, automatically detected by prefix:
- Bot Token: obtained when creating a bot in the BotBell app; one token corresponds to one bot.
- PAT: created in the BotBell app > Settings > API Keys; one token controls all bots.
Installation Steps
- Install the BotBell app: download it from the App Store, create a bot, and obtain a token.
- Install the MCP Server.
- Configure Claude Desktop: edit ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json, and you can choose PAT mode (recommended) or Bot Token mode.
Available Tools
PAT mode (pak_ token):
- List all bots, used to find the bot_id before sending.
- Create a new bot.
- Send push notifications through a specific bot.
- Check user replies for a specific bot.
Bot Token mode (bt_ token):
- Send push notifications.
- Get user replies from the BotBell app.
Other MCP Clients
For Cursor or other MCP clients, add the corresponding configuration to the MCP configuration.
Example Usage
- "Send a notification to my phone saying the build is complete"
- "Analyze this log file and push a summary to my phone"
- "Check whether I have any replies in BotBell"
- "List my bots" (PAT mode)
- "Create a new bot named Deploy Alerts" (PAT mode)
Lightweight Alternatives
If MCP is not needed, you can use:
- SDK: call the REST API directly from code. Python: pip install botbell; JavaScript: npm install @botbell/sdk.
- Agent Skill: install with one command, zero dependencies, suitable for more than 30 AI tools.
Applicable Scenarios
Suitable for scenarios that require linking an AI assistant with mobile device notifications, such as receiving task completion reminders, pushing log analysis summaries, and quickly replying via notification buttons.
