Purpose
free-proxy-mcp is a local, stdio-based Model Context Protocol (MCP) server used to provide MCP clients (such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, or other MCP-compatible agents) with access to Litport public free proxy snapshots. It provides three restricted read-only tools for listing verified HTTP, SOCKS4, and SOCKS5 proxies, picking the highest-ranked proxies, and summarizing current snapshot information.
Main Capabilities
This server is a lightweight wrapper around @litportnet/free-proxy-sdk, exposing three types of read-only tools, all sharing the same set of underlying filter conditions:
- list_proxies: list proxies.
- pick_best_proxies: pick the highest-ranked proxies.
- proxy_snapshot_stats: summarize statistics.
Filter parameters include:
- country: a two-letter ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 country code, case-insensitive.
- checkedWithinMin: limit results to proxies checked within the last 1 to 1440 minutes.
list_proxies and pick_best_proxies return a count and a proxies array, where the array contains normalized records returned as-is by the SDK. proxy_snapshot_stats returns: the total number of matches, counts by protocol and anonymity, the top 10 countries by count, the proportion of matching proxies that support HTTPS, the minimum/median/p90/maximum latency among records reporting latency, the number of records with a known seven-day online rate, and the latest and oldest lastChecked timestamps. Each response includes a disclaimer field.
Usage
Add this server to the client's MCP server configuration. For Claude Desktop, configure claude_desktop_config.json; for Claude Code, you can use .mcp.json or claude mcp add. No additional installation steps are required other than needing Node.js 20+, and npx will fetch and run the package on demand. If explicit installation is needed, you can also install it yourselfinstall it.
Applicable Scenarios
Suitable for MCP client and agent scenarios that need read-only access to verified free proxy lists, filter proxies by a specific country or freshness range, or learn about current snapshot statistics.
Limitations and Security Statement
This server never forwards traffic, never accepts arbitrary URLs passed in by tool callers, and does not expose any write or side-effect-producing tools. All tools are read-only. Errors from the underlying SDK (invalid filters, request timeouts, malformed or expired snapshots) are returned in the form { isError: true, content: [...] } rather than thrown, and do not include stack traces. Free proxies are for testing purposes only; never transmit credentials, cookies, payment data, or private data through them.
