Purpose
gtasks-mcp is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server for Google Tasks, used to integrate Google Tasks into MCP-enabled clients (such as Claude), enabling clients to manage tasks in Google Tasks through tool calls.
Main Capabilities
The server provides the following tools:
- search: Search for tasks in Google Tasks. Input query (string, search query), returns matching tasks and detailed information.
- list: List all tasks in Google Tasks. Optional input cursor (string, used for pagination), returns the full task list.
- create: Create a new task in Google Tasks. Input taskListId (string, optional, task list ID), title (string, required, task title), notes (string, optional, task notes), due (string, optional, due date), returns task creation confirmation.
- update: Update an existing task in Google Tasks. Input taskListId (string, optional, task list ID), id (string, required, task ID), uri (string, required, task URI), title (string, optional, new task title), notes (string, optional, new task notes), status (string, optional, new task status, with values "needsAction" or "completed"), due (string, optional, new due date), returns task update confirmation.
- delete: Delete a task in Google Tasks. Input taskListId (string, required, task list ID), id (string, required, task ID), returns task deletion confirmation.
- clear: Clear completed tasks in a Google Tasks task list. Input taskListId (string, required, task list ID), returns confirmation of cleared tasks.
In addition, the server provides access to Google Tasks resources: Tasks (gtasks:///<task_id>) represents a singletask in Google Tasks, supports reading task details, including title, status, due date, notes, and other metadata, and can be listed, read, created, updated, and deleted through the above tools.
Usage
Preparation
- Create a new Google Cloud project.
- Enable the Google Tasks API.
- Configure the OAuth consent screen ("internal" can be used for testing).
- Add the scope https://www.googleapis.com/auth/tasks。
- Create an OAuth client ID with application type "Desktop App".
- Download the JSON file of the client OAuth key.
- Rename the key file to gcp-oauth.keys.json and place it in the root directory of this repository (i.e., gcp-oauth.keys.json).
- Build the server using npm run build or npm run watch.
Install via Smithery
Google Tasks Server can be automatically installed to Claude Desktop via Smithery.
Authentication and Saving Credentials
Run the server with the auth parameter: npm run start auth. This will open the authentication flow in the system browser, and after authentication is completed, the credentials will be saved in the root directory of this repository (i.e., .gdrive-server-credentials.json).
Use with Desktop Applications
To integrate this server with a desktop application, add the corresponding configuration to the application's server configuration.
Applicable Scenarios
Suitable for scenarios where an MCP-enabled client (such as Claude) is needed to help manage task search, list viewing, creation, update, deletion, and clearing of completed tasks in Google Tasks.
Limitations
The materials do not provide specific information about platform compatibility, fees, pricing, performance, or results; these aspects are not provided at this time.
