domain-mcp is a domain management MCP server designed to let users manage Dynadot domains through Claude, Cursor, or any MCP-compatible AI client. Its core goal is to replace the registrar backend panel and fragile ad hoc scripts, wrapping 108 operations of the Dynadot API into 10 composite MCP tools for AI clients to call.
Main capabilities:
- Domain management: check domain availability, generate similar name suggestions, manage domain portfolios.
- DNS management: add or update DNS records (such as A records).
- Renewal management: view domains expiring soon, group them by urgency, enable auto-renewal.
- Transfer and WHOIS: manage domain transfers, query current name servers and WHOIS contacts.
- Tool discovery: provide additional domain checks, name generation, and tool discovery features.
How to use: Requires Node.js 18 or later and a Dynadot API key. Add the server to an MCP client and restart the client to use it. For example, you can ask the client to perform operations such as "list domains expiring in the next 60 days." For client-specific setup, shared HTTP transport, environment options, and troubleshooting, refer to the domain-mcp package guide.
Architecture and validation: The server groups related operations into composite tools so that clients only need to load a small number of tool definitions instead of more than 100 separate definitions. Input is validated through Zod, responses are consistently formatted, and error messages explain what the problem is. The repository is a pnpm workspace containing two related packages.
Security and approval: For destructive or paid operations, the client should ask in advance. The portable plugin defines approval and read-back contracts, and the optional Claude Code adapter adds native confirmation hooks for selected irreversible operations.
Use cases: Suitable for users who need to manage Dynadot domains, DNS, renewals, and transfers in bulk through an AI client, especially in scenarios where they want to reduce the complexity and error risk of directly calling the API.
Limitations: Before use, you must have a Dynadot API key and install Node.js 18+. Specific client configuration, HTTP transport, environment variables, and troubleshooting details require consulting the official package guide. Other feature details, pricing information, platform support, and so on are not yet provided.
