HeicToPng is a free, no-registration online tool for converting HEIC photos from Apple devices into the more universally compatible PNG format. Its core feature is that the entire conversion process takes place locally in the user's browser and is not uploaded to any server, thereby protecting privacy.
Purpose To solve the problem that the HEIC format cannot be opened or uploaded directly in non-Apple ecosystems such as Windows, Android, web uploads, and email clients, by converting HEIC to lossless and widely compatible PNG.
Main capabilities
- Batch conversion: up to 100 images per batch on desktop and up to 30 per batch on mobile, with no daily or total limits, and repeated batch processing is possible.
- Format support: supports .heic and .heif files, with no file size limit (limited only by device memory).
- Local processing: uses a WebAssembly-compiled libheif decoder running in a browser background worker thread, and conversion can continue offline after the page has loaded.
- Privacy protection: photo data is not sent to a server, with two verification methods provided: an upload counter (always 0 bytes) and developer tools network monitoring.
- Quality preservation: lossless decoding and saving as PNG, preserving the original resolution and transparency, and automatically applying EXIF orientation rotation.
- Advanced settings: the long edge can be limited to 4096, 2048, or 1024 pixels to reduce file size.
- Other format conversions: the website also offers options for HEIC to JPG, WebP, PDF, MP4, GIF, BMP, and more.
How to use
- Open the heictopng.org page and drag and drop or click to upload .heic/.heif files (up to 100 per batch on desktop, 30 on mobile).
- Conversion starts automatically and is completed locally in the browser.
- After the batch is complete, click the blue button to download a ZIP file containing all the PNGs. No software installation, browser extension, or account registration is required.
Use cases
- Convert format before sending iPhone photos to Windows or Android devices.
- Prepare compatible images for web uploads, email attachments, and form submissions.
- Image processing that requires editing or preserving transparency.
- Urgently convert HEIC photos in an environment without internet access.
Limitations
- PNG output does not preserve EXIF metadata (date, GPS, camera information), nor does it embed the original ICC color profile (such as Display P3); photos are rendered with standard screen colors.
- If EXIF needs to be preserved, use JPG or WebP conversion instead and enable the preserve EXIF option.
- For color-critical printing or design work, desktop color management tools are recommended.
- The mobile batch limit is 30 images to maintain stability.
- Windows 11 does not support the HEIC codec by default; the HEIF and HEVC video extensions must be installed, or conversion must be performed.
