About this tool

Gnothi is an open-source AI journaling and learning tool built around "story-based learning" and "continuous recording." Its core purpose is to turn what users want to learn into an ongoing serialized story, or directly generate audio courses. After users choose a background setting and the topic they want to learn, Gnothi writes and narrates a continuous series, teaching knowledge through story chapter by chapter, with chapters about half an hour long, each chapter continuing from where the previous one ended. If a more direct instructional style is preferred, an audio course can also be created.

In terms of main capabilities, Gnothi supports switching between cyberpunk stories, fantasy analogies, and direct audio courses for different presentations of the same topic. It provides "Series" continuity chapters, allowing an update rhythm to be set or generation on demand, and a target length or continuous running to be set. Users can add a "Series Direction" in the Logbook (run log) to guide where the next chapter goes; this guidance is read once and then cleared; the premise and topic can be edited in settings. Readers can read in the chapter view, listen to the accompanying narration, export completed chapters together as an EPUB, or enable RSS subscription after choosing a public tier and confirming rights.

Gnothi is also a journaling tool. Users can write or dictate entries, Gnothi automatically adds titles and summaries, and supports chatting with entries. New series by default read the entire journal, and this can be narrowed to specific tags or turned off at creation time or later in settings. The journal can be used for learning records (marking what has been understood and where one is stuck), and also for story creation (recording scenes, characters, or hypotheses, which later chapters reference in planning). In addition, Journal, Fields, chat, sharing, and Groups each have independent entrances, can be used separately, and selected context can be connected to a series.

Pricing and credit rules: each chapter costs about $1.37 in credits, including narration; each account's initial credits are enough for about three chapters. After that, a one-time top-up of $10 adds 1 million credits, about seven chapters, and permanently unlocks three paid capabilities; credits do not expire.

Features that can be used without AI credits include: journaling, tags, and any number of Fields; narration for each generated chapter (default voice, full audio quality); providing a Feed URL for publishing a selected series (the URL itself has no access control); sharing under the "full" privacy tier; and using the initial AI credits.

Features that consume credits include: series chapters (about $1.37 per chapter, including narration, generated on demand or at a set rhythm); causal analysis of Fields and plain-language interpretation of their results; and story chat and dictation when speaking is preferred over typing.

Features unlocked after the one-time top-up include: creating your own groups (joining and posting are free); Summary and Sensitive sharing tiers (limiting what readers can get from entries); choosing a narration voice from four presets or cloning/designing one; using stronger models for series chapters; and converting your own text or files into audio.

Gnothi treats users' emotional, journaling, and voice data as consumer health data and provides a Consumer Health Data Privacy Policy. The way to use it is: write the premise and topic, then decide when to generate the first chapter.
