Purpose
Clojars-MCP-Server is a server based on the Model Context Protocol (MCP), specifically used to retrieve dependency information from Clojars (the artifact repository of the Clojure community). It is designed to provide MCP-enabled AI tools such as Cline, Roo Code, Cody, Claude Desktop, etc. with the ability to query Clojars dependencies, helping developers quickly obtain accurate dependency version information during AI-assisted programming.
Main Capabilities
This server exposes three tools for AI tools to call via the use_mcp_tool command:
- get_clojars_latest_version: Get the latest version of any Clojars dependency.
- check_clojars_version_exists: Check whether a specific version of a dependency exists.
- get_clojars_history: Get the version history of a dependency, with support for a configurable limit.
The names and descriptions of these tools are specifically designed to help Claude understand that they are used to retrieve version information from Clojars. When users ask about Clojars dependencies, Claude can identify whether these tools are applicable based on the following information: the tool names clearly indicate their purpose; the descriptions state that they are used for "Clojars dependency (Maven artifact)"; the example format shows typical Clojars dependency patterns.
Usage
Install via npx
The fastest way is to run Clojars MCP Server directly with npx. It can also be installed globally.
Install via Smithery
Smithery can be used to automatically install Clojars Dependency Server for Claude Desktop.
Manual Installation
- Clone this repository.
- Install dependencies.
- Build the server.
- Add the server to the Claude configuration:
- For the VSCode Claude extension, add it to cline_mcp_settings.json (on macOS this is usually located at ~/Library/Application Support/Code/User/globalStorage/saoudrizwan.claude-dev/settings/).
- For the Claude desktop application, add it to claude_desktop_config.json (on macOS this is usually located at ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/).
After adding the server configuration, Claude will automatically detect and connect to the server at startup. The server's capabilities will be listed under "Connected MCP Servers" in Claude's system prompt, making them available for use.
Once this MCP server is configured in Claude's settings, it will automatically appear in the "Connected MCP Servers" section of Claude's system prompt. This lets Claude know about the server's capabilities and allows it to use the provided tools via the use_mcp_tool command.
Applicable Scenarios
This is suitable for scenarios where Clojure is used for development and users want to quickly query Clojars dependency version information, check version existence, or obtain version history in AI-assisted programming tools (such as Cline, Roo Code, Cody, Claude Desktop, etc.).
Limitations
Specific limitation information is not currently provided.
