bamwor-mcp-server is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server used to provide world geographic data to AI agents. Its core positioning is to connect AI agents with real country and city data, covering 261 countries and regions and 13.4 million cities.
In terms of use cases, this server is suitable for AI application scenarios that require geographic information queries, country statistical comparisons, city retrieval, and spatial proximity analysis. It can be used with Claude Desktop, Cursor, Windsurf, and any MCP-compatible client.
Its main capabilities are implemented through 8 tools:
- Retrieve detailed country data by name, slug, or ISO code, returning population, area, capital, region, coordinates, and more than 20 statistics.
- search_countries: Search for countries by name or keyword, returning basic data for matching countries.
- Search for cities by name in a global database of 13.4 million cities.
- list_cities_by_country: List cities in a country, sortable by population or name, with support for minimum population filtering.
- compare_countries: Compare all available indicators of two countries side by side, including population, area, GDP, HDI, life expectancy, etc.
- Retrieve country rankings by indicator. Available indicators include population, area, GDP, HDI, life expectancy, and 9 Bamwor proprietary indices (ibeu, ibcp, ibda, ibcx, ibee, ibfm, ibdi, ibed, ibsa); if the indicator is omitted, all available indicators are listed.
- Retrieve detailed information for a specific city by GeoNames ID, returning coordinates, population, elevation, time zone, and province.
- get_nearby_cities: Use PostGIS radius search to find cities near a given city, returning nearby cities and distance (in kilometers).
Data scale and features: 261 countries and regions, each with more than 20 statistics; 13.4 million cities, including coordinates, population, elevation, and time zone; 9 proprietary indices; support for ranking by any indicator; 67,860 country comparison combinations; support for 4 languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese, Italian). Data sources are the CIA World Factbook, GeoNames, UNDP, and the World Bank.
Usage: It can be installed globally, or added to claude_desktop_config.json; in Cursor / Windsurf, add it to the MCP settings. Environment variables, API documentation, and how to obtain a free API key are provided in the official repository.
