ImgExtender

ImgExtender is an AI-based image extension (outpainting) tool that generates new canvas space around a photo without cropping or stretching the original image. Users upload JPG, PNG, or WebP (max 10 MB), choose a square, portrait, or landscape ratio, and place the subject in the appropriate position within the target canvas, and the AI automatically extends the background, textures, and scene. It is suitable for product images, e-commerce banners, multi-format portrait adaptation, key visuals for posters and landing pages, interior and architectural scenes, and more. Operations are completed in the browser, with no software installation required and no need to write prompts. Uploads and results are private by default, can be deleted in advance, or are automatically removed after 7 days. Registration grants 10 free credits, enough for two extensions using the professional model; Pro and Max plans include watermark-free results and commercial usage rights.

About this tool

ImgExtender is an AI image extension tool whose core purpose is to give photos more compositional space without cropping or stretching them. It uses outpainting to generate new image content beyond the edges of an uploaded image, thereby adapting a tight image to different ratios and layouts.

Main capabilities

  • Extend the frame rather than crop or stretch: the editor is designed to add content beyond the original frame, rather than stretching the photo into a new shape. After generation, the original frame is still retained on the comparison canvas, making it easy to view the added space and boundaries.
  • Canvas ratio and subject positioning: square, portrait, and landscape presets are provided. Before generation, you can adjust the ratio, position, and scale to place the photo in the appropriate position within the target canvas, and the generated space will extend according to the composition you set.
  • Professional outpainting model: uses a professional outpainting model to extend the background, textures, and scene using the uploaded image as context.
  • No prompts required: no need to write prompts or learn complex AI settings.
  • Ready to use immediately: operate directly in the browser, with no need to install an app or learn professional editing software.

How to use

  1. Upload an image: supports JPG, PNG, or WebP, max 10 MB. After uploading, a boundary marker is visible to distinguish the image area provided by the original file.
  2. Choose the target canvas: choose a square, portrait, or landscape ratio, and place the photo in position within the new canvas before generating the surrounding space.
  3. View and download: compare the generated space with the uploaded frame, check key edges, and download once satisfied. You can upload an image and compose it before registering; an account is required for generation. Registration grants 10 free credits, enough for two image extensions using the professional model, and the current draft is preserved during the registration process.

Use cases

  • Products and e-commerce: add surrounding space to tight product crops to fit product listings, e-commerce banners, product catalogs, and marketing layouts. Before publishing, it is recommended to check the lighting, surfaces, and object details at the crop boundaries.
  • Multi-format portrait adaptation: starting from one retouched portrait, generate the space needed for different layouts—tighter crops for avatars, wider frames for headers, and portrait compositions for social stories—without forcing the subject to be cropped. One image can produce portrait, square, and landscape formats.
  • Negative space and copy space: place the subject where the layout needs it, then extend the background into clean negative space for headlines, offers, or presentation copy. Suitable for posters, landing page key visuals, ad creatives, and presentation covers.
  • Interior and architecture: create wider frames for interior and architectural scenes by extending walls, floors, arches, and shadows. Before publishing, check for repeated lines,Hard edges and perspective, suitable for editorial, travel, or real estate layouts.

Limitations and Notes

  • Extension range: Extend only as much as the target requires. Moderate extension provides more nearby color, texture, light, and perspective information; large blank areas require the model to "imagine" more. If a wide result looks inconsistent, adjust the position or scale to reduce the newly added area and try again.
  • Generate per layout: Square posts, vertical stories, and wide banners require different subject placement and negative space. It is recommended to compose and generate separately, each time starting from the same clean uploaded image, choosing the next ratio, repositioning the subject, and checking each one at full size.
  • Upload quality: Use the clearest image possible. Visible edges, consistent lighting, and sufficient scene context help; heavy compression, blur, transparent cutouts, and complex repeating patterns are harder to continue.
  • AI may generate incorrect letters, symbols, and repeated details. Important text and logos should remain within the original frame, and key brand fonts should be added as separate design layers. Before publishing, be sure to check faces, hands, reflections, architectural lines, and product edges.
  • Difference from upscaling: Image extension adds content beyond the frame, while upscaling changes the size of existing image data. ImgExtender focuses on outpainting and reframing, and does not provide an upscaling process.
