duplicacy-mcp is an MCP server for monitoring Duplicacy backups. It acts as a small bridge that reads Duplicacy backup metrics from a Prometheus exporter and exposes them through the MCP protocol, enabling large language models (LLMs) to monitor backup status, progress, and health.
Purpose
This tool is designed to let LLMs access monitoring data for Duplicacy backups. It reads metrics from duplicacy-exporter and serves them through the MCP protocol.
Main capabilities
- Provides read-only resources: duplicacy://status, duplicacy://progress, and duplicacy://health, for browsing backup status, progress, and health information.
- Provides tools: get_backup_status, get_backup_history, list_snapshots, and get_prune_status.
- Supports a single JSON-RPC endpoint over HTTP (/mcp), or stdio via npx duplicacy-mcp.
- By default listens on 127.0.0.1:8080. It is recommended to place an authenticated reverse proxy in front before exposing it.
- Distributed as a Go binary (using GoReleaser), supporting multiple platforms, and also provides a Docker image and an npm wrapper.
Usage
- For access over HTTP, the service by default provides the endpoint at http://127.0.0.1:8080/mcp .
- For clients that start the server via stdio, the npm package can be used in the mcpServers configuration block.

Applicable scenarios
Suitable for scenarios that require letting LLMs monitor the status, progress, and health of Duplicacy backups, for example integrating into AI assistants or automated monitoring workflows via MCP.
Limitations
- By default it only listens on a local address (127.0.0.1:8080); remote access requires configuring a reverse proxy and authentication.
- This tool is read-only monitoring and does not provide the ability to modify backup configuration or perform backup operations.
- It depends on the Prometheus metrics provided by duplicacy-exporter.
