About this tool

FPL Intelligence is an MCP (Model Context Protocol) server whose goal is to make Claude the user's Fantasy Premier League (FPL) analyst. It connects to the official FPL API to fetch real-time data and provides 11 analysis tools.

Purpose: aimed at Fantasy Premier League players, helping with analysis tasks such as captain selection, transfer decisions, opponent squad scouting, chip timing, and league predictions.

Main capabilities (11 tools): captain picks, transfer suggestions, player comparison, hit calculator, chip strategy, differentials, fixtures, price predictions, live points, squad scout, and opponent/league-related analysis.

How to use:

  1. Installation: requires Python 3.12+. Can be installed via pip install fpl-intelligence, or from source.
  2. Connect to Claude Desktop: configure the MCP server in the Claude Desktop configuration (when installing from source, you need to use uv's full absolute path and the repository path; you can find the path with which uv).
  3. Restart Claude Desktop: on macOS, fully quit with Cmd+Q and reopen, then look for fpl in the MCP server icon (hammer icon).
  4. Ask Claude questions: for example "Analyze my FPL team 5456980 — who should I captain, who should I transfer in, and when should I use my chips?". Bank balance, free transfers, and chips are automatically detected based on the team ID.

Finding your team ID: go to fantasy.premierleague.com → click Points → get the number from the URL; the league ID is in the mini-league URL.You need to use the FPL team ID (a number like 5456980), not the username.

Data and privacy: connects to the official FPL API, uses the same free public data as the FPL website, and all data is real-time. The server runs on the local machine and communicates with Claude Desktop via MCP. No API key, no account required, and data does not leave the local machine except for FPL API calls.

Limitations and notes:

  • Requires Python 3.12+; you can check with python3 --version.
  • The FPL API blocks requests that do not look like they come from a browser. You can test reachability with curl: a 200 means the API is fine and the problem may be in the Claude Desktop sandbox; a 403 means the network is blocking it.
  • The Claude Desktop sandbox may prompt to approve network access to fantasy.premierleague.com; if ignored, restart Claude Desktop and watch for the prompt; log locations: macOS is ~/Library/Logs/Claude/, Windows is %APPDATA%\Claude\logs.
  • A VPN or corporate network may block *.premierleague.com; try disconnecting the VPN or switching to a personal network.
  • The FPL API goes down around the deadline and between seasons (June-July); you can test fantasy.premierleague.com/api/bootstrap-static/ in a browser.
  • When installing from source, you need to use uv's full absolute path and the repository path in the Claude Desktop configuration, make sure you edit the correct configuration file, and then fully quit and reopen Claude Desktop (on macOS use Cmd+Q, not just closing the window).
  • If it still does not work, check the Claude Desktop logs for errors, or provide your operating system, Python version, error message, and the curl test output above in an issue.
  • Support channels: see CONTRIBUTING.md for development environment setup and guidelines; there is also a security policy (Security policy).
