About this tool

todoist-v1-mcp-server is a clean, reliable MCP server built specifically for Todoist, based on the current Todoist Unified API v1 (not the deprecated v2). It solves a common pain point: the official Todoist Web MCP has a known persistent disconnection bug on Anthropic's side, requiring daily reconnection; while community alternatives are either based on the deprecated REST API v2 or have schema validation bugs that fail when the Todoist API evolves and returns additional fields.

Key features: targets the current Todoist API v1; uses stdio transport, no cloud dependency, no daily reconnection needed; uses the modern MCP SDK's registerTool() API (rather than the deprecated setRequestHandler pattern); never enforces strict output schemas on API responses, so Todoist can freely add new fields without breaking anything; zero SDK wrapper dependencies, making HTTP calls directly via axios, avoiding intermediate libraries falling out of sync with the API.

Tool set: 31 tools in total, covering tasks, projects, sections, labels, comments, reminders, and more. Reminders and completed task queries require a Todoist Pro subscription. If the API returns a Pro-gated error (HTTP 402, or a 403 with keywords such as premium / pro / upgrade / paid / subscription), the server returns a clear message stating that the feature requires Pro, rather than leaking the raw API error.

Usage: first obtain a Todoist API token (Settings → Integrations → Developer); then install and build; next configure Claude Desktop (edit claude_desktop_config.json and restart); optionally configure Claude Code as well. Once connected, Claude can handle natural language instructions, such as "What's on my schedule today?" (using todoist_get_tasks with filter: "today"), "Remind me to call the dentist next Tuesday" (using todoist_create_task), "Mark the dentist task as complete" (using todoist_complete_task), "Show all overdue tasks" (using todoist_get_tasks with filter: "overdue"), "Create a project called 'Home Renovation'" (using todoist_create_project), "What projects do I have?" (using todoist_get_projects). The filter parameter of todoist_get_tasks supports Todoist's full natural language filtering syntax.

Use cases: users who want to manage Todoist tasks and projects in natural language through an AI assistant, especially MCP integration scenarios that require a stable connection and want to avoid daily reconnection.

Limitations: requires a Todoist account (the free tier works); reminders and completed task queries require a Todoist Pro subscription. For specific installation commands and configuration details, please refer to the project repository.
