imagegen-mcp is an MCP server developed by ForgeMesh Labs for AI image generation, background removal, and image upscaling, with optional automatic payments completed in USDC on Base Mainnet via the x402 protocol. It is part of the ForgeMesh ecosystem and is positioned as infrastructure for autonomous agents.
Main capabilities
- Image generation: Provides four generate_* tools that accept a required prompt parameter and an optional aspect parameter (supporting 1:1, 16:9, 9:16, 4:3).
- Image transformation: The transform_image tool accepts a public image_url, a preset id from list_presets, an optional aspect (default match_input_image, also available: 1:1, 16:9, 9:16, 4:3, 3:4), and a wait parameter (default true, which polls the free status URL until the PNG is ready, usually taking 15-30 seconds).
- Background removal and 4x HD upscaling: Available via the corresponding tool calls.
Usage Add the server to claude_desktop_config.json, then set environment variables: a dedicated, low-balance Base Mainnet wallet private key is required, and the wallet must hold USDC. There is an explicit warning not to use a main wallet, because the server will autonomously sign USDC transfers. No other API keys are required.
Payments and billing Each tool call initiates an HTTP request to the ForgeMesh imagegen service, which is governed by the x402 protocol. If payment is required, the MCP automatically signs and broadcasts a USDC transfer from your Base Mainnet wallet, then retries the request. The user sees the result, the wallet is charged, and no manual action is required. Fee reference: 1 USDC is approximately equal to 4 basic images, 2 background removals, 2 HD images, 1 professional version, or 1 transformation. Ways to get USDC on Base: bridge to Base via Coinbase, or buy directly on Base.
Network and security The network is Base Mainnet (eip155:8453). The server only connects to https://imagegen.coinopai.com，每个请求有 a 60-second timeout and a 1 MB response limit, and does not use third-party payment routing or affiliate redirects.
Use cases and limitations Suitable for AI image generation, background removal, and upscaling tasks that require pay-per-image without subscriptions or API keys, and especially suitable for autonomous agent integration. Limitations include: only submit images you have the rights to, minors must not be involved, and provider safety filters will apply; you must prepare your own Base Mainnet wallet and USDC; payments are automatic, so wallet security must be considered.
