Stakpak

Stakpak is an open-source AI agent that runs 24/7 on your machine, keeping applications running continuously and notifying only when human intervention is needed. It provides a PaaS-like experience while avoiding lock-in, and deployment and automated operations can be completed with three commands. The agent can automatically handle tasks such as failed health checks, idle resource reclamation, and TLS certificate renewal, and generate reports. All network requests are filtered through a network sandbox (Warden), sensitive information is replaced before being sent to the large model, and complete session audit logs are provided. The product is written in Rust, licensed under Apache 2.0, and runs entirely locally.

About this tool

Stakpak is an open-source AI agent designed to keep your applications running and automatically perform operations tasks. It is described as "living on your machine 24/7, keeping your applications running, and notifying you only when human intervention is needed," and claims to provide all the benefits of PaaS without lock-in.

Purpose: Stakpak is used to run and manage applications in production environments, automatically handling routine operations and incidents, and reducing manual intervention. It emphasizes that, unlike coding agents that write code, it focuses on secure execution in production environments.

Main capabilities:

  • Autonomous agent: runs in the background 24/7.
  • Monitoring: monitors schedules, channels, and recent activity.
  • Automated incident response: for example, when a health check fails, the agent discovers 312 idle database connections, restarts the application, reduces latency from 340ms to 12ms, and sends a Slack summary.
  • Cost optimization: a daily scan finds 14 idle RDS instances and 200GB of orphaned EBS volumes, generates a savings report, and recovers $4,200 per month.
  • Preventing problems: a TLS certificate expires in 6 days, and it is automatically renewed with zero downtime; expired keys, deprecated APIs, and EOL runtimes are handled similarly.
  • Network sandbox (Warden): every network request made by the agent (curl, Python, MCP server) passes through a transparent proxy and Cedar policies; even if permissions are misconfigured, the agent cannot break anything.
  • Secret replacement: detects 210+ types of secrets and replaces them with placeholders before the LLM sees them; real values are restored only at execution time, and API keys and database passwords never reach any model provider.
  • Complete session audit logs: every operation, file edit, and command is recorded with full context. Changes are backed up before modification, locally and over SSH. Any session can be replayed, any change traced, and rollback performed immediately.
  • Open source and auditable: written in Rust, Apache 2.0. Runs entirely on your machine, using mTLS encryption. No data leaves your environment. You own the agent, the data, and the trust boundary.

How to use: The entire product works through three commands: install Stakpak, run stakpak init ., and it will discover your stack and generate APPS.md. Then run stakpak up, and it will drive. Provides an interactive TUI, giving full control in the terminal. Autopilot is a single long-running process that combines scheduling, messaging, and a local API. It is installed as a system service and persists across restarts.

Use cases: Suitable for teams that need automated operations, to keep applications highly available, reduce cloud costs, and manage certificate and secret lifecycles.

Limitations: The materials do not provide more details about specific platform support, pricing, language support, and so on.
