About this tool

Purpose

quality-control-plan-mcp is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server that exposes Imnoo's drawing analysis engine (i.e., the engine behind quality-check-protocol.imnoo.com) to any MCP-capable assistant. Users simply hand a technical drawing PDF to the assistant and receive a numbered inspection plan in about one minute: every dimensional tolerance, ISO fit, thread, geometric tolerance (GD&T), and surface roughness is automatically extracted, balloon numbers are added to the drawing, and acceptance limits and recommended gauges are listed.

Main Capabilities

  • Automatic extraction: Identify dimensional tolerances, ISO fits, threads (including fine threads), geometric tolerances (GD&T), and surface roughness from technical drawing PDFs.
  • Acceptance limits: Calculate acceptance limits for ordinary dimensional tolerances with a numerical nominal size (nominal size + lower/upper deviation, rounded to two decimal places), e.g., ⌀50 ±0.05 becomes 49.95–50.05. Fits, threads, geometric tolerances, and surface roughness are inspected by gauge rather than measured against limits, consistent with Imnoo calculator rules.
  • Balloon numbering: Supports keeping the numbers printed on the drawing or renumbering (1, 001, or D001 style, in reading or measurement order). Numbering is derived from the selection and numbering settings; after deleting a feature, the remaining ones are automatically renumbered.
  • Inspection level: An inspection level can be specified (100% full inspection, Q1 sampling inspection, Q2 sampling inspection).
  • Export: Generate a ballooned drawing PDF, a complete inspection package, and an Excel measurement and inspection report.
  • Measurement judgment: Entered measured sample values are judged pass/fail against the limits, and the results and dates appear in both documents.
  • Default section order: Arranged according to the measurement workflow—geometric tolerances (CMM) first, surface roughness (roughness tester) last.
  • Prompt: Provides the create-quality-plan prompt, guiding the assistant through the "analyze → review → export" process.

Usage

Requirements

Node.js ≥ 18 is required.

Installation and Configuration

Add the server to the MCP client configuration. The following are the officially provided configuration examples (kept as-is):

Claude Desktop (Settings → Developer → Edit Config, add to claude_desktop_config.json):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "quality-control-plan": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "quality-control-plan-mcp"]
    }
  }
}

Cursor (add to ~/.cursor/mcp.json):

{
  "mcpServers": {
    "quality-control-plan": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "quality-control-plan-mcp"]
    }
  }
}

VS Code (GitHub Copilot), Windsurf / other stdio clients: any client that starts a stdio server can use the same command.

Example session

User: Build a Q1 quality plan for C:\drawings\flange.pdf, use type-prefixed numbering, and write everything next to the drawing.

Assistant: Calling analyze_drawing — 2 pages with 17 features in total: 5 dimensional tolerances, 2 drilled-hole fits (⌀10 H7 retains printed balloon 1), 1 shaft fit, 2 threads, 1 fine thread, 2 geometric tolerances, 4 surface roughnesses; drawing QP-1001-A, part 4711-050, AlMg3, ISO 2768-mK. Calling build_quality_plan, inspection_class: "Q1", numbering: { style: "typePrefixed" } — D001 ⌀50 (±0.05) → 49.95–50.05 (caliper), H001 ⌀10 H7 (inside micrometer), G001 ⏥ 0.05 (CMM), R001 Ra 3.2 (surface roughness tester)... Calling export_inspection_pdf and export_quality_plan_excel using the same plan — writing QP-1001-A_inspection-package.pdf (both drawing pages with balloons + printed plan) and QP-1001-A_Q1.xlsx. Page 2 has two values with low reading confidence — worth checking before the plan is released to the shop floor.

Plan options (plan parameter)

An object accepted by build_quality_plan and the two export tools — pass the same object everywhere to ensure the documents match the reviewed plan. All fields are optional; the defaults reproduce the Web app's initial plan.

When to use

  • First Article Inspection (FAI)
  • PPAP-style dimensional reports
  • Shop-floor quality inspection protocols
  • Handles both vector and scanned PDFs

Limitations

  • Analysis upload: analyze_drawing is the only tool that leaves the local machine; it uploads the PDF to Imnoo's drawing analysis (the same as the Web app). Free tier: 1 analysis per IP per day; PDF max 30 MB. Uploaded files are automatically deleted after a short retention period and are not used for any other purpose. Saved analyses (save_analysis_to → load_analysis) are unlimited and offline.
  • Local operation: plan building, numbering, acceptance limits, Excel and PDF generation all run locally offline. No telemetry, no other network calls.
  • Analysis accuracy: drawing analysis is automated and may miss or misread features, especially on low-quality scans — verify the plan against the drawing (rows[].value can correct values, exclude can remove rows).
  • Web app-only features: hand-drawn features, dragging balloons, and saving plans to the Imnoo calculator are Web app-only features.
  • Encrypted or unusual PDFs: encrypted or unusual PDFs that cannot be copied fall back here to variant: "plan" (the Web app rasterizes them instead).
  • Build provenance: this package is built from Imnoo's Quality Check Protocol monorepo and directly imports the Web app's domain layer (drawing mapper, plan math, numbering engine, Excel and PDF builders), so the Web app and this server produce identical plans and documents by construction. Every release passes 61 end-to-end checks that drive all five tools over stdio against bundled sample drawings.

Data and privacy

The only data that leaves the local machine is the drawing PDF passed to analyze_drawing: it is uploaded via HTTPS to Imnoo drawing analysis at quality-check-protocol.imnoo.com to detect features, automatically deleted within 24 hours, and not used for anything else. No telemetry, no other network calls; plan building and Excel/PDF export run on the local machine.
