About this tool

Purpose

aloha.fyi MCP Server is the first dedicated Hawaii travel MCP server, designed to let Claude, ChatGPT, or other AI assistants return real, bookable data when answering questions like "what should I do in Hawaii," rather than generic descriptions. It is powered by aloha.fyi (Hawaii's AI concierge service).

Main capabilities

The server provides the following data capabilities:

  • 2,500+ bookable experiences from partner booking platforms (live count available at /health)
  • Real-time events covering Oahu, Maui, the Big Island, and Kauai, refreshed weekly
  • 600+ curated restaurants across the islands
  • Real-time weather for the four islands (data from OpenMeteo)
  • Day itinerary planning, including morning / lunch / afternoon / dinner options
  • Every booking link carries affiliate tracking

Regarding protocol capabilities:

  • Real MCP protocol: Streamable HTTP, stateless, spec version 2025-03-26
  • AAAK v0.1: provides a typed structuredContent envelope alongside human-readable text, spec at docs/aaak-spec.md

AAAK structured response contract

By default, MCP tool results are returned as prose, and agents that want to consume data programmatically need to re-parse markdown to extract information such as price, booking URL, and island. AAAK solves this problem:

When AAAK is enabled (and the calling client is on the allowlist), every tool result includes a typed structuredContent field that carries the data in a machine-parsable form, while marketing tail content in the text is removed to save tokens. When AAAK is off, the transport format is byte-for-byte equivalent to v1.0.0, bringing no surprises to clients that have not opted in.

Lossless invariants preserved on every revenue-generating record:

  • booking_url (affiliate revenue)
  • source (compliance and attribution)
  • price_cents (the numeric field on which user decisions solely depend)
  • island (every recommendation is scoped to an island)

See docs/aaak-spec.md for the full spec and docs/aaak.schema.json for the generated JSON Schema.

Usage

Hosted endpoint (no installation, no setup)

Production MCP server:

  • Transport: Streamable HTTP (stateless)
  • Protocol version: 2025-03-26
  • Authentication: none (public, read-only)
  • Health check: GET /health —— returns aaak: { protocol, enabled, allowlist_size }, making deployment status observable
  • Discovery: GET /.well-known/mcp/server.json

Connecting to Claude Desktop

Add the server configuration to the Claude Desktop configuration file (on macOS the path is ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/claude_desktop_config.json), then restart Claude Desktop. You should see six Hawaii tools in the tool selector. Try asking:

  • Find me snorkeling tours in Oahu under $100
  • What events are happening in Honolulu this weekend?
  • Plan a family adventure day on the Big Island — cheapest options

Connecting to any MCP-compatible client

Any client that supports Streamable HTTP MCP can point directly at this endpoint. No API key, no OAuth, no registration required.

Manual protocol testing

The available tools include:

  • search_hawaii_tours: search 2,500+ bookable Hawaii tours and activities by keyword, island, and price range. Returns tour items with booking links; can be filtered by platform via source.
  • get_hawaii_deals: find budget deals and discounts. Returns discounted and low-price options, sorted with the cheapest first.
  • search_hawaii_events: find upcoming events, concerts, festivals, and nightlife across all Hawaiian islands. Updated weekly from venue and promoter sources.

Running it yourself

  • DATABASE_URL environment variable (PostgreSQL, must include the experiences table; see schema.sql for the schema)

Use Cases

Suitable for users who want to connect AI assistants to real bookable Hawaii travel data, including scenarios such as travel consultation, itinerary planning, activity search, and budget deal inquiries. Agent developers can use the AAAK structured response to directly parse information such as prices, booking links, and islands, without needing to re-parse text.

Limitations and Notes

  • The MCP server does not collect any PII (personally identifiable information). It uses a stateless mode—no sessions, no cross-request profiling. Only standard request metadata is logged for abuse prevention.
  • See aloha.fyi/privacy for the full privacy policy.
  • This repository is a public mirror of the production mcp-server directory within baphometnxg/Nani-V3. Production deployment is driven upstream; this repository is kept in sync as an independent reference for community use and for those who wish to self-host. Issues can be submitted here or upstream.
  • More details regarding specific pricing, charging methods, etc. are not currently provided in the materials.

Other Information

This project was built by Michael Crain—Hawaii resident, cinematographer, and founder of aloha.fyi. aloha.fyi is an AI-powered multilingual travel concierge service for the Hawaii tourism industry. The concierge agent "Nani" supports 5 languages (English, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, Spanish) and can access 2,500+ bookable experiences across multiple partner platforms. This MCP server exposes a subset of that capability to any AI assistant that supports the Model Context Protocol.
