About this tool

ConfigCat MCP Server is the official Model Context Protocol (MCP) server released by ConfigCat, providing access to the ConfigCat public management API for feature flag and configuration management. It also enables code editors to understand feature flags in a project, integrate the appropriate ConfigCat SDK into a project, and even create new feature flags directly in the codebase.

Key capabilities

The server provides a complete set of tools covering the ConfigCat public management API, enabling create, read, update, and delete operations on entities such as feature flags, configurations, environments, and products. It can also retrieve comprehensive SDK documentation and code examples to facilitate implementing feature flags in a project.

The available tools cover multiple categories:

Member management: list organizations, organization members, pending invitations, and product members; invite members, update member permissions, remove organization members, remove product members, cancel invitations, and list, create, get, update, and delete permission groups.

Products and configurations: list products, get product details, update products, delete products, get and update product preferences, create products; list configurations, create configurations, get configuration details, update configurations, delete configurations.

Environments and segments: list environments, create environments, get environment details, update environments, delete environments; list user segments, create segments, get segment details, update segments, delete segments.

SDK keys and Webhooks: get SDK keys for configurations/environments; list Webhooks, get Webhook details, replace Webhook configuration, update Webhooks, delete Webhooks, get Webhook signing keys, create Webhooks.

Integrations and audit: list integrations, create integrations, get integration details, update integrations, delete integrations; get code references; get product audit logs and organization audit logs; get stale feature flag reports; get current organization usage and quota information.

Feature flag metadata: list feature flags under a configuration, create feature flags, list predefined variations, update predefined variations, get feature flag details, replace feature flag configuration, update feature flags, delete feature flags; list product tags, create tags, get feature flags by tag, get tag details, update tags, delete tags.

Feature flags and setting values (v1 and v2 APIs): get feature flag values, update feature flag values, replace feature flag values, get multiple setSet values, update multiple setting values; the above tools provide *-v2 versions for Config V2.

Change requests: get change request details, update change request metadata (such as title, notes, schedule, etc.), list change requests, get proposed setting changes in a change request, update proposed setting changes, add comments, apply a change request, approve a change request, claim ownership of a change request, close a change request (without applying), create a change request for specified configs and environments, remove an existing approval, resolve setting conflicts caused by concurrent release changes, update an existing comment, delete a comment, remove a setting from a change request.

SDK documentation: the update-sdk-documentation tool can retrieve comprehensive SDK documentation and code examples to facilitate implementing feature flags in your project.

Usage

This MCP server can be configured via environment variables. To connect clients:

Cursor: open Preferences -> Cursor Settings -> MCP & Integrations, click Add Custom MCP, add the ConfigCat MCP server definition, then save the settings.

Visual Studio Code: create a .vscode/mcp.json file in the project root and write the corresponding content; after saving the settings file, the MCP server can be used in VS Code.

Claude Desktop: open Settings → Developer, click Edit Config, open claude_desktop_config.json, save and restart Claude.

Use cases and limitations

This server is intended for management operations, suitable for managing ConfigCat feature flags, configs, environments, products, members, webhooks, integrations, change requests, etc. in a code editor, and for retrieving SDK documentation and code examples.

Note: The ConfigCat public API has rate limits; the server respects these limits and returns corresponding error messages when they are exceeded. This server is designed only for management operations; do not use it in production applications to evaluate feature flag values. Evaluation should use the ConfigCat SDK or ConfigCat Proxy.
